Is continuing blood sugar 14.5 worrying?

New years eve 2014 my blood sugar went up to 30.4. I had been told by my doctor not to check my levels as I would panic but this day I did because I felt so ill. Over the next 3 months he increased my medication so that I am on 4 x 500 metformin daily and 4 x 80 gliclozide daily. Once my blood sugars were at a good level - average 6.5 - I was told to stop checking them regularly a.d told I cannot get test strips and lancets on prescription. I decided that for peace of mind I would buy my own supplies and check once per week. Everything has been fine until 27th December when it was 16.2. I have been testing once per day since then and only twice has it been below 10. Today it is 14.4. I am beginning to worry but given the doctor was adamant I should not home test do not know what to do. Any suggestions?

I do not mean to offend, by what I have written, and sugars kept in teens you eventually will be put on insulin which means daily injection or injections, I know that I will eventually be on insulin and I am not looking forward to that because I hate injections lol go poo d luck with trying to see a different doctor or you could ask to see a diabetic specialist who has more training than a diabetic nurse

sorry, Marilyn I am not sure I made it clear. The diabetic specialist I saw in hospital was a doctor rather than a nurse and he was the one who said he thought I would have to go on insulin at least on a temporary basis. I am hoping that there might be an alternative (additional) tablet instead but not very hopeful!!

Hi Gill, perhaps going on insulin just for a short while would help, if you hate needles you could always ask about the pump type, as for me i have got my diabetic review next week, not looking good, but saying that my sugars were all over the place due having major surgery in novemebr for total hip replacement, hope fully it is now coming under control please keep in touch

Thanks Marilyn. Can you tell me what you mean by a pump? After speaking to the diabetic nurse specialist yesterday it looks increasingly likely that I will go on insulin at least on a temporary basis. Will know for sure 18th Feb.

The pump is a gives you the right amount of insulin and it is attached to your body, all i can suggest is that you do a search on diabetes uk or google it, x
