Is FMS classed as a disability

sorry if that seems like an odd question. I was diagnosed some years ago and am determined not to give up work despite the sensitivity. I drive to work as I can't stand the pain of being bumped about on the tube, but my parking is not as close to my office as I would like. As I also have plantar fasciitis I arrive at my office very hot, in pain and knackered. My sister tells me I should apply for a blue badge to at least get a closer parking space but I don't know that I would qualify.  I try to keep active and work through the pain but I think it's time to ask for help. Any advice?

It might be a good idea to ask  Best to understand how to cope with these issues. FM is difficult and I hope you can find a treatment from a rheumatologist. Ask a rheumatologist for the help and what the criteria is for receiving blue badge.Feet are a terrible pain with plantar fasciitis. I suffered for several years tried everything. Long story short found better shoes and arch supports help eliminate the pain . It takes time and patience even the custom inserts for shoes did not help from pediatrists. Better spring shoes help reduce the amt of pressure per sq inch. Walking in them relieve Pfizer’s and can help the feet heal. I swear by these spring shoes. Also helps back knees and balance the muscles. In my experience it finally gave me peace.

      Hi Donna

i had a chat with my specialist about my symptoms and where the pains were, frequency, other conditions I suffer from. He told me mine was an easy diagnosis.

I take Duloxetine which are an antidepressant but work as a very good painkiller, although I have recently had to double my dose to 80mg. I top up with co codamol. I also take anti inflammatory pills so must take stomach liners too.  Without Duloxetine my fibro fog is and tenderness is unbearable.

Thanks for that. I wear supports for the pf, which help to reduce the frequency of attacks. The FMS symptoms are more problematic for me.

FM can be tricky to control. I finally found a rheumatologist to help me control pain issues.

    Hi Sue!!!

Because of the osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia when I asked the dr for the

handicap sticker she immediately gave me a permanent handicap plate. Also I periodically go to physical therapy for my Planter fasciitis when it gets inflamed . And then  I got a lawyer who specializes in fibromyalgia cases representing me for disability. I felt bad at first but when you hurt as bad as we do we qualify for it. Definitely need companionate doctors on board. I hope you get it.

Firstly well done unfortunately I recently had to give up my job as it was making my health worse !

As for getting a blue badge it is possible, I was granted mine about a month ago in Cornwall. The application is online, you have to provide a passport photo and may have to have an assessment. I didn't have an assessment but was contacted by email to answer some extra questions and then received my badge in a couple of weeks. It also costs £10 payable when you apply but it is refunded if you don't get one. I would say that it is definitely worth applying and be as explicit as you can be on the application so they understand fully the impact of this disability on your life.

On the other question yes it is classed as a disability. X good luck x
