Is hammertoe surgery worth it? I feel like everyday it gets worse, making shoes unwearable

Hello all,

I've had one severe hammertoe all my life. For the most part, I would work around it by buying shoe sizes in one size larger or getting a wide version. However recently that's not even working. It appears to be bending even more now. I'm in pain all day wearing regular shoes. I have horrible calluses every day.

However, I'm reading about the surgery and it seems like a daunting task. Is true I won't be able to walk for a couple weeks? Is it true that it could potentially make the pain worse? I just want some feedback from people who have already have the surgery.
