    Hello,

i am 68 and have been on HRT until recently. I started to take it when I was 42 and having the most dreadful hot flushes. A few months ago, a young doctor in our practice asked if I would be prepared to try a different method of dealing with my hot flushes, after a lengthy discussion, I agreed to try  Clonadine an old remedy used for blood pressure but found to work for hot flushes. 2 months on, the flushes have come back with a vengeance and I am now back on my HRTsince Wednesday.  Hot flushes still but should be better in a week or two. So thankful.

if you do not have cancer history in your family, go for the HRT and you will be feeling more like your young self soon.

    good luck.

rushing out for lunch but feel free to ask anything and I will reply later.

I’m 42 years old and I started hrt a year ago. For young ages is a necessity for bone and heart protection. I feel like my old self again and it gave my life back.

Hi, I've been on hrt for 9 months now, its the best thing I've ever done health wise, when I started with the menopause 3 years ago I felt wretched, sad, crying all the time as well as the awfull hot flushes , I feel more like my old self again since taking it, the hot flushes stopped after 2 weeks I feel so much better, as for the risks if there is no history of cancer in your family you may as well give hrt a go, you've got to live for today.

Hi, I'm 54 and trying to get on HRT! What do you use and is it Biodentical or regular pharmaceutical stuff?

      Thanks!

      Alfietammy,

The bioidenticals I take are filled by my regular pharmacy, except for the compounded testosterone cream. Still though, it is a regular pharmacy that also does compounding. I do not take anything over-the-counter. My bioidenticals are prescribed by an M.D. and filled by a regular, regulated pharmacy. Hope this helps.

Knowing what I know now, if it were me, I would have absolutely started taking HRT early on. But my doctor never even suggested it although I was experiencing very debilitating menopausal symptoms. HRT would have saved me years of life-changing menopausal symptoms, helped ease the way (menopause was very rough on me), saved my sex life and preserved my bones. Don't take synthetic hormones. Rather, find a doctor that is experienced in prescribing bio identical hormones and don't just focus on estrogen and progesterone...get your testosterone check too and get on testosterone replacement if needed. I plan to educate and encourage my daughters about the importance of balancing their hormones (with bio identicals) at the first sign of peri -menopause. Because my doctor was so close-minded to HRT, it cost me my bones and almost my marriage.

Yay! Good for you. How old are you now? So what do you take (estrogen, testosterone, etc.) and how do you take it (cream, pellets, compounded, etc.)? Thank you! I'm trying to get started but not sure how sad

I'm 61 and started HRT only 7 months ago. I take estrogen gel (topical), progesterone orally and compounded testosterone cream (topical). I wish my doctor had cared enough by giving me options...he was fully aware of my awful menopausal symptoms, extremely painful intercourse and no libido, etc but NEVER suggested anything. I, like many women, had accepted menopause as a 'normal' process that would eventually work itself out. And we women overcome the challenges, adapt and move on. It wasn't until I had my bone density scan In Sept 2017 (which revealed significant osteoporosis), that I had a major WAKE UP CALL!  I asked my (then) doctor how could I have developed significant bone loss in a few years time, when I'm normal weight, VERY active, and took my vitamin D and calcium religiously....he said b/c I was petite and caucasian. Like wuh??? (then if THAT"s the case, taking vit D & calcium and staying active does not help some women, AT ALL??). I could not believe that I had done everything to keep my bones strong and then told that there was nothing I could do to prevent osteoporosis. I started researching aggressively and low and behold!  I learned that the number one reason for the development of osteoporosis is loss of estrogen, as well as testosterone. I felt I had been wronged--why did my doc NEVER suggest some estrogen or testosterone (my T had been low for a long time)? Sherrie, do your body (and psyche) a lot of good and start the HRT. Like I said in my original post, take bioidenticals, NO synthetic forms of HRT. All the best to you!

      Sherrie,

One more thing, if you no longer have your uterus, you will not need to take progesterone.
