If your primary care doctor diagnosed bursitis what did he or she advise you do about treatment> Did they tell you to take aspirin. As I mentioned elsewhere I was just diagnosed with it end of last year. I take narcotic pain medication for other things and expected the pain from the bursitis and the attending limp would be made better by taking this pain medication but over about three months it became clear to me that it was haviing no effect on the bursitis. My pharmacist told me that is the case and I should take aspirin because it would address the inflamation. I was flabergasted as I never knew this. It worked! Such a relief. You need to be referred to an Orthopedist or self refer if you can and that will give you a baseline and provide you wilh solid justification to seek a referral, even going to the medical group if necessary. You may need to keep the pressure on. BTW I was told by a stellar Orthopedist (Spine) to NEVER carry anything heavier than 25 pounds (including children) and this is good advice for all women. If you do not heed this advice I promise you will pay for it when you get older. It sounds like you need a thorough work-up by an expert in Ortho. What tests has your primary care doctor ordered. You are smart to not just accept what they say because often they are wrong. Even if blood tests come back "normal" other tests, and "deeper" testing (ins may not pay for this) should be done given your symptoms. A specialist can often pinpoint the problem much faster than a generalist so I strongly recommend that you push for a referral. Remember that the insurance company does NOT want to spend much money on you and you must be informed about your policy and what your rights are. Let them know that you are not going to go away until your rights are exercized and your needs met. Send a certified letter to the doctor, medica group and insurance company outlining your diagnosis and symptoms and difficulties getting your concerns addressed.
I have found so far that sleeping on the side where the bursa is not helps and is really the only way to get good quality sleep. I have heated blanket which is also wonderful and I am going to get a heated mattress pad as well. The heat is very comforting. You can of course also use heating pad. The pain and limp get much worse if I walk a lot (Ex walking around mall all day). When inflamation is high try to walk only shorter distances, but do walk as it is important for your bones. I do not know what caused my bursitis which is on the outside of my right hip. I also suspect that soaking in a therapy pool would help so if you have a spa at home or a gym in your community that has one you may want to consider that.
Sounds to me like you are doing too much. Instead of carrying the children, ask them to help you by carrying something...they will feel special and like a good helper.
Best Wishes
