Is it better to start 50mg sertaline straight rather than half?

I have started back on 50mg sertraline. I have halfed the tablet and thought after a week or so would up it to the 50mg-as a way to introduce it to my body slowly. Is it better to just take 50mg straight off? Or does it not really matter?

Thanks.

Hi, not sure about that, I don't remember having trouble getting on Z just getting off.

                       Good luck to you

I agree with you. I responded well to 25mg then soon following up to 50mg. But getting off hasn't been so easy. I'm a month off of Zoloft now, & researching withdrawal symptoms, I found this great forum. It was such a relief for me to read that "I was normal"... that there really are withdraw symptoms!

I gues we are all wonderfully unique so will react in different ways. I think I will go up to 50mg in 3 days. Thanks!

Hi, years ago, my doc started me on 25mg to see how my brain reacted to it. I didn't have side effects but I was still crying a lot & depressed. Soon after, we increased to 50mg & that amount balanced me out quite well with no side effects. That 50mg seem to be just what I needed. I was on it for many years after the tragic death of my dad, still with no negative effects. I was still able to cry & mourn, but more appropriately.

You will know what feels  'just right' for you. Listen to your body & watch your emotions. Then let your doc know what's happening. But, I believe, we have the final day about what dosage & meds feels right for us.

I hope this helps you. Good luck, & let us know how you're doing. :-)

Kevin, are you trying to go off the meds or are you starting on them? My experience of going on the sertraline (Zoloft) had no side effects, only when I went over 50mg. This was after trying several other antidepressants that did make me sick. But now I'm off of them for the past 3-4 weeks, after taking them for years. There are side effects, which is why I researched about them & found this great forum site. Reading about other people's experiences has helped me more than any doctor could. These people experienced the meds, doctors only read about them ;-)

      Stay in touch :-)

Hi Kevin, if Zoloft (sertraline) is making you very anxious & up tight after only 2 days, it is hard to tell what it could be, such as: your brain hasn't adjusted to them yet so you're still feeling what you felt before the meds (if you were anxious before), or the dose isn't the amount your brain needs to balance out, or this med isn't the right one for you, etc....

I took sertraline for depression, to help the imbalance of seratonin in my brain after a tragedy. I also still take Klonopin (a benzo....like Xanax) for my anxiety. I'm sure it must have taken some time for my brain to adjust, I don't really recall how long that was because I started many years ago. So I don't know if I'm helping you much. I'm just sharing my experiences, like other's experiences in these forums have helped me learn more.

Hopefully others who are also new to sertraline will write in to say how long it takes to adjust & how they felt in the beginning so you know if you're on the right track with this med & just need to let it take effect.

Meanwhile, please don't be hard on yourself & try to relax. People care!
