Is it BV or ureaplasma urealyticum?

I have been told that I've had BV for years, but apparently there are other bacteria that can cause similar symptoms that Gyn's rarely know to test for are are not very well known. They are Mycoplasma bacteria. I recently saw a NEW gyn who was a bit younger than my previous GYN's. I described my symptoms and she took a swab. She decided to test me for ureaplasma urealyticum, one of the mycoplasma bacteria. In all of my research, I had never heard of this. The results came positive mine were at abnormal levels. I was treated with doxycycline and for the first time feel fresh all day.

ureaplasma urealyticum is a relatively new bacteria that can't be cured with the same treatment as BV. There are other infection like this one that can cause issues as well.

I have been hearing more about ureaplasma.  I am happy for you that you finally are feeling better.  Does the ureaplasma urealyticum also return just like the BV or did the doxycycline permanently kill the infection?

How did you get your doctor to test for this? I read about this 2 years ago and my doctor said she didn't need to test me for this because it's usually sexually transmitted but not considered an STD, however since I have been with the same person for 16 years, she said it was unnecessary.
