Is it cancer?

My 84 year old father has been told he has an enlarged prostate, a reading of 16 and

therefore has cancer. Can they be sure without a biopsy. They are just going to monitor his readings every 3 months.

My urologist told me that the only way he could tell Me if I had cancer was through a biopsy. If I was his age, I would do exactly what they told him to do.

The only way cancer can be confirmed is via a biopsy. One reading of 16 presumably of the PSA means little. If say he had an earlier reading, say six months and it was say,12 then that would not be a good sign.

Thst said, please note that a biopsy comes with risks.

Frankly if I was that age I wouldn't do a thing.

Even if it is cancer it has to get to a point that it will cause him harm and that can take years.

If you want to investigate it further you could do a prostate MRI

But don't even consider the MRI until after the next PSA test in three months.
