Hello Shannon. Firstly let me tell you that the fact is that you feel unwell, you've lost weight and you have swollen lymph nodes. That means that you're not well whatever the cause is, so you will definitely NOT be wasting your doctor's time by paying him a visit. Even if it is something simple like a throat infection you need treatment of some description. So make that appointment and get yourself to the doctor's as soon as possible. You may just need a course of antibiotics, in which case you'll feel better soon. And if it did turn out to be something more serious the sooner it's treated the more chance of total recovery, I know, I've been there. Keep in touch and good luck at the doctors.

Just read your new post, if you've found more swellings ring the surgery, tell them what you've found and ask if the referral has been made as a matter of urgency. Or, if you want more immediate attention, take yourself to A&E and tell them what's going on. They may do a scan there and then, but be prepared for a long wait, A&E is always busy. Unless they ask I wouldn't mention that you've already been to your GP.

i think im going to go to the doctors because i know how stressful hospitals are i have a spinal mri aready booked for a different reason but will that show the swollen lymph nodes?

I'll be honest with you, I don't know. But if you're going to speak to doctors tomorrow that's something to ask them. I had a routine CT scan after cancer treatment and they found my tiny brain tumour even though they weren't looking for one so I'm guessing that if it's a spinal MRI that would cover the ground lymph nodes but maybe not neck. Ask your GP, see what he says.

hey just want to let you know as you asked to be kept in the loop i went to the doctors today and he said that my lymph nodes are definitly inflamed and that its very weird so im being dent to a specialist but i told him to tell me exactly what he thinks it is so he said he cant confirm his suspicions but he said it either a infection but all my lymph nodes are swollen and hard so he thinks its hodgkins lymphomer or non-hodgkins lymphomer and as im a child (13) i would get seem within 24-48 hours (and yes my parants know about this it was them who said to start it to get  advise)

Hi Shannon. First of all I would like to say what an incredibly mature young woman you are. You have been doing all the right things. Both Hodgkin's and non Hodgkin's are curable, I myself finished treatment for non Hodgkin's a year ago. I'm very pleased that your parents are helping you seek advice from other people who have had problems just like yours, it's not nearly so scary when you realise that there are lots of people just like you and we're all here ready to talk to you - and your mum and dad if they need a chat too. Your doctors will know exactly what to do to help you get any treatment that you may need. And you have the advantage of being very young, that's always very helpful. Please let me know what happens with you next, I'm good at listening and I'm always ready for a chat, with you or your mum and dad. Everyone will help you, mum and dad, doctors, nurses and others on this site. Speak soon x
