Is it IBS?

Hi everyone,
From a year now I've had some uncomfortable bowel habits that have come and gone. I'm 35 and before this never had any issues.
It all started last April 2019 when after having my son I suffered from a massive panic and anxiety episode. I went to the doctors and they blamed all my symptoms on my anxiety, but did some tests to make me happy. They were all negative. One doctor did mention IBS but that was it.
That April I was getting stomach pain, followed by diarrhea then constipation and mucus in my stool. This latest till June.
It went away for a few months then had another attack in November 2019 when I had horrible stomach pain, again with changing stools.
I have now entered another anxiety episode (because of being isolated) and my stools have gone thin and I have had mucus as well when passing gas. No stomach pain but feel like i need to go when I've just been.
Do you think this sounds like IBS? I am reluctant to contact the GP as they just blame may anxiety for everything. I was going to see a specialist but now everything has shut due to coronavirus.
Any thoughts would be welcome.
Thanks in advance.

this has ibs stamped all over it! ask to see a doctor you trust when you can. watch everything you've eating, what you drink, the amount of stress you have and monitor everything, when you go back to your doctor's you'll have all the information to hand , buscopan is the go medicine for boosting, ginger can help with nausea and sickness, try medicine from your chemist for diarrhoea and fybogel or laxido to help you to go more easily (but not the anti-diarrhoeals and fybogel together!). ask to see a dietitian too and good luck with it all. yoga or some kind of sport will help you relax!

Thank you for the reply.
There is one doctor I trust, so hopefully when the surgery opens again I can go and see her.
I have been very stressed and drinking in the evenings (not loads just a glass) but don't normally.
It's this sensation of incomplete bowel movement that really bothers me it's so uncomfortable.

hi sian, if you know this doctor's name then ring your surgery and pre-book seeing them or insist your in pain and they should see you. i think they are still seeing patients but just not so many. why should you wait if you've really had enough. i need blood tests for vitamin d levels by because i'm coeliac so once the doctor's is reopen i will be in there for them. i was so scared of disrupting them i didn't even put my bread order in! good luck they should see you if you're in agony, i lay it on thick i'm afraid it makes them see me.

Sounds just like IBS symptoms which can be very much aggravated by stress.Try to keep a food diary to see if anything triggers the loose stools. Gluten and dairy products are 2 of the main culprits,so you could try excluding one of them for a start and see what happens.

I don't eat dairy anyway but have had more gluten since lock down so maybe decrease that.
Thanks all.

hi sian mich, you could try cutting back on the gluten, but don't cut completely any food stuff, but make sure you consult with a specialist before you cut anything out. who told you cut out lactose or why did you do it?
