Is it likely that I would experience amitriptyline withdrawal?

Hi, I only took 3 10mg pills and I had terrible side effects so my doctor told me to discontinue using them. Today I was reading a lot online about people experiencing terrible withdrawal side effects and I can’t find anywhere how long it takes your body to become accustomed to getting the drug. Since I only took it for 3 days is it unlikely I would have withdrawal issues or does it happen very quickly? Any personal experiences would be very helpful. Thank you!

It's highly unlikely that you would experience withdrawals after on 3 days on a low dose. This drug takes around 6 weeks to start helping the patient and you would have to take it for over a week for it to start to do its job. Your body quickly reacted to Amitriptyline telling you to stop which is a good thing. I was on it for 3 weeks to help chronic nerve pain and it triggered a very rare form of Glaucoma that caused me to lose the sight in my right eye (thankfully I got to hospital in time for the Eye Clinic to reverse the damage). I stopped taking it immediately and must never take it again, but I had no withdrawals after 3 weeks on a higher dose than you. Put your worries away. A word of warning though, some Doctors start with Amitriptyline then offer either Gabapenten or Pregabalin instead if it is unsuitable. Please research these two other drugs and the damage they are causing patients before even thinking of trying either of them. Side effects are awful and withdrawals are even worse.

I hope you get better soon
