Is it normal for side effects to last weeks...

I have been on 20mg dose for about 6 weeks now. I am now off work with it because the thought of going out the house is sending my anxiety through the roof. When I am out my anxiety is that much it is taking everything out of me I am getting home and sleeping. I just cant see an end in sight. Does it get better?

A quick answer to your question Shivvers is yes, it is normal for side effects to last weeks. It varies for everybody. Usually the higher the dose the longer it may take. I first started taking 20 mgs years ago but they were too strong for me so my doctor changed the dose to 10mgs. I cannot remember any side effects on 10 mgs. They were probably there to some extent but I never read up about it or went on sites like this so I never expected anything, if that makes sense. I had a busy job so maybe that helped me keep focus. They worked great for me if I'm honest. I'm reducing after about 10 years on them for reasons mentioned in my posts. Lots of experienced people on here with great advice.

    Yes it does.

I had side effects for 3 months , horrendous but you will improve.

I've been on 10mg for about 8 weeks it's actually making me feel worse the longer I take it, and hair falling out a lot. Went back to GP and I'm trying sertraline instead after having break from citalopram. Reading what others say seems to take about 3 months to kick in, but I seem to have an adverse reaction to it and cant afford to go bald! Think normal starting dose in 10mg, if things don't improve go back to your doctor see what he suggests. Can be a bit trial and error but it does seem to work for many people just not me!

hey guys, iv been taking my citalopram 40mgs this year for about 11 or 12 weeks an iv had abit of dip in my depression and anxiety but does anyone get bad dreams as a side effect?

is definitely a side effect but all ssri or antid.meds cause nightmares .plus nightmares are also part of your natural anxiety.

I have had a few bad dreams... including last night where I woke the house up screaming. But they are only now an again. Which is less then before on it

Hi Shivvers /6weeks is very little as it will have side effects for at least 8/10 weeks and 20 mgs is very low.

Thank you. I know they will get better but I just cant see it. I am not one to take meds but it had got so bad I needed to do something. I am not one to have time off work for anything and it is not helping with being of work but I need the break if that makes sense
