Hello,
surprisingly the mechanism triggering the over-production of the acid is not very well known. The reflux can affect lower esophagial sphyncter and the sensitivity of the esophagial wall varies from person to person. Severity of symptoms does not say anything about mucosal damage. Symply - you may have totally different trigger mechanism, or you have insensitive esophagus that does not produce symptoms or you may have bile reflux that does not mix with much of gastric (hydrochlorid) acid. Another reason might be that your trigger is not acidic, but alkaline. However the rule might be - if something triggers rampant reaction - it might be as well causing more damage. When you do not suffer of Barrett's esophagus that causes insensitivity of the mucosa and get acid reflux from some other triggers - than you are perfectly safe with tomatoes. My reflux is suprisingly triggered by IPA more than lagers. Yes, our bodies are weird and some patterns are very subjective. Consider yourself lucky, tomatoes are great
