Is it normal to feel effects so early?

I went to my GP yesterday after having a meltdown at work and was put of 50mg of Sertraline. I'm a uni lecturer and have been struggling with increasing anxiety for some time. Until now I've been managing 80mg of Propranalol a day. I only took my first tablet at noon yesterday and by the evening when i walked my dog, I felt very spaced out. Now its 6:30am and I've laying awake for 3 hours. i have a really restless feeling and kind of giddiness. Kind of like when you're about to go on a rollacoaster, but not in a good way. Has anyone else experienced this?

    Hi Simon,

The effects of the seretonin are different for everyone. I felt very strange after just one tablet and then it took a while for it to balance out. The brain is basically getting an overdose of the stuff to start with. Over time it balances out and those initial bad side effects dissipate

    Hang in there

yes unfortunately thats normal. i had side effects from day 1. and its usually 2 weeks before they subside a bit. some people are very lucky and have minimal side effects but the majority of us suffer. it does get better . its just a slow process so hang in there

Thank you both for replying so quickly. It's useful to know this is normal. Just have to take it day by day i guess. It's really quite scary how powerful the mind is and also the medication that can affect it.

hi, yep I was the same. Felt totally out of it almost immediately and for 3 days couldnt go to work... improved after that but was still shakey for anout a week with dry mouth, felt very sick for a couple of weeks and exhausted for about 7! week 9 now and feeling a lot better. anxiety has slowly improved throughout.. good luck, you will be fine! side effects are not fun at all but it can work well so try to stay positive
