Is it normal to start feeling a bit more positive after 3 days?

Hi,

I'm 22 and had anxiety for the past two years, I had tried everything before going to my doctor only on Friday and he gave me citalopram 10mg.

The first night I panicked myself that much I mimicked the side effects.

Saturday I was overthinking and having little anxiety moments as I like to call them and I also cried, Sunday I was the same and I cried twice but today Iv had some overthinking negative thoughts but also have had positive ones as well, I actually laughed this evening with my Nan but then straight after I thought about the pill and that it don't kick in till 4-6 weeks I was just wondering if it's normal to start feeling a smige positive about things?

Don't get me wrong thoughout the day I'm still getting negative thought and worries about the side effects today Iv started to get head aches feeling sweaty overthinking a lot (well I did anyway) but I thinking a little bit more positive.

If anyone could help that would be a big help please as this is all new to me never taken medication ever for my anxiety always tried to do it on my own, so thought I'd give these ago for the first time.

No it takes 2 weeks to get in your system, and an additional 2-4 weeks to reap the full benefits of citalopram.

Morning, im just waking up on day 9 of been on 20mg also never taken medication before. Yesterday was my 1st day with no side effects at all.

Day 2 and 3 were my worst days with very bad panic attacks and dark thoughts. Hoping ive turned a corner now.

I find eating a ginger biscuit before the tablet helps massivly and also a glass of milk to line the stomach.

    Hope this helps

Some people do feel well after a few days ... before the side effects kick in.  Usually takes weeks, for some months for them to kick in.  Everyone's different though.

I actually felt a better after a few days also. It may have been the "placebo effect"...but that's what anxiety is; all in your head!

I think it is a placebo effect. I had the same thing happen to me when I started. After a week or so I started feeling back to the anxiety. It has since improved but I don't think I'n feeling the full effects and I'm on week 13.
