It's 10 weeks yesterday since I had a total knee replacement......im feeling depressed because I thought by now I would be much better,my knee is stiff, sore, and can't walk properly, I dread going shopping my knee gets so painful and cooking dinner or housework I spend the time waiting to sit down, im sorry I had it done, the pain before(osteoarthritis) operation wasn't constant like this is..have you any encouragement for me please Rose

Hi Rose, I had TKR Feb. 13, this year. I was exactly where you are now. especially depressed. But I did turn a corner. around 12 weeks, and everything was better. Less pain , more mobility. It takes time and a positive outlook. There is a light at the end of this tunnel. I am feeling so good now. So much more stability on my operated leg. I do heel slides every morning , and will for the rest of my life, otherwise I'll lose range of motion. good luck,

I live in New Jersey, USA. had a great physical therapist who pushed me really hard for 10 weeks. after 4 weeks he said I could drive. just try it, and I did. and I could. after that I felt freer and better about my recovery. although I was still walking with a cane... No one told me how terrible recovery was. I had no idea. the first 3 weeks were hell. but....it gets better, I swear. hang in there

Hi Kathleen, thank you for your reply, we had op on same day, 21st june this year, you obviously live in the UK, I live in Ireland.., sorry to hear your experience in hospital was tough, being in hospital is bad enough you don't want any other distress. It's good to know im not alone , like you im doing the best I can but its not easy, when people ask when I had it done I feel ashamed to say 10 weeks ago because im still limping and im guessing they're thinking,.. That's ages ago, she should be well over it by now...i won't feel like that anymore, I know now its normal ..Rose

Hi Rose my middle mane is Rose my parents were Irish from Dublin I don’t know if you know any Irish actors but David Duffy is my cousin The pain we feel is file I think they should inform us more as to exactly what goes on and what to expect when surgery is over if you would like me you thought once it was done you would be up and running and pain-free 😂😂😂 please don’t put yourself under pressure and think that you should be running around take your time do your exercises and take your medication on time don’t think you can go without because you can’t I don’t know how you’re sleeping I’m not sleeping well at all at night tossed and turned all the time i’m seeing my doctor next Friday and I’m hoping he has now got me another consultant as I discharge myself from the one that did the operation as we just did not see eye to eye at all Elevate your leg when you can and put ice on your knee also or use a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a towel that may help you keep in touch have a great weekend Kathleen

Hi martha, I didn't realize you definitely got a defective prosthesis, I thought you were going for a second opinion to see if thats why you are still in that level of pain....i thought you might be told you have an infection, thats absolutely dreadful you have to go through all that again after going through 7 months already...you are a remarkable brave and strong lady, be very proud of yourself.i hope you will let us know and I send you my sincere good wishs..x Rose
