is it reasonable to have time off work with frozen shoulder?

I have been have been given co codomol (no more than 8 in 24hr period) and naproxen (250mg 3 a day) At best they take the edge off the pain for a short period but i spend most of my time waiting until its ok to take the next dose. I have actually upped the naproxen to the max daily dose of 1225mg as the smaller dose didn't touch the sides. Meanwhile i find myself completely unable to work. i expected that having got pAinkillers i could dose myself up, they would work and i could carry on. Totally misguided as the pills make me feel like im on another planet, plus i am still in agony. I am an art teacher so my job is very physical. i have been off work for a week which is unheard of for me. We have half term coming up and i suppose im asking will it ease off enough for me to go back to work then. I have never experienced this level of pain ever, even when i had pneumonia. I am by the way on hrt (pemprak?) as to cap it all i had been going through the menapause from hell. Feel a bit fed up with all this. Is there anything else i can do pain relief wise. And is it reasonable to be off work with a frozen shoulder? Any suggestions gratefully received.

Hi there, first of all I really feel for you as I am suffering with a frozen shoulder too..I have had it a year so far and am still in the pain stage..I thought I was coping, after 11wees off work ( 6 were school hols, I work with deaf children so signing is a big problem ) I went straight back to work full on up to Xmas..I have not gone back too work this week although I'm feeling so guilty but I've had to learn to put my well being first as my blood pressure had hit the roof through pain and stress and depression starts to set in....my pills make me feel the same as yours so I wasn't taking them while at work...my diagnoses was a severe frozen shoulder affecting every aspect of my life.. I couldn't put a bra on , on my own for 2 months, it still hurts and is a struggle but I manage. I could go on and on but I'm sure you must be suffering the same as me, I hope yours isn't severe though.. I so understand how fed up you are, ..I feel really inadequate at the mo and as like you i want to do my job. i have been told to accept and adapt my situation, which is easier said than done.., I know even sitting is painful and constant discomfort brings you down. Although my painkillers only take the edge off and make me feel spaced out too i found using an ice pack helped..I'm now using heat pads because I have to do exercises, which I kept putting off because of pain, I'm doing gentle exercises at the mo and determined to work at for a quicker recovery..I've been told I've got this for at least another year! ..im even considering seeing a spiritual healer , see if that will lift my spirits..so look after your shoulder and put your well being first because it will be affected and that affects everything else..take some time off work and literally do as little as poss and take your time..there is a light at the end of the tunnel, that's what I keep telling myself....I hope you managed to go back to work and you are coping and not following my pattern.take care of yourself ..sam

Wow ladies I hear ya. I am 3months in and still at pain stage. Told it will only get better with rest. I love my job too and am going back next week modified to just use arm for 3 months. Should be interesting as I have desk job with 80% typing. I take Zopiclone at night for amazing sleep where I don't toss around and hurt myself more. I take Vimovo 2x day for pain and inflammation. I also take lyrica for nerve pain as I get shooting stabbing pains and tingling hand. Even sitting in a car holding a book is excruciating after 10min. The Dr says rest and time is the only treatment. I hate it but need to look after me. Still have lots of years left and want to be pain free for those years. Physio is also important to keep range of motion that you do have. Ice for pain and heat before stretching it.

    Take care

Hi sandy..I can't stress enough that, yes, you do need to look after your well being, it's hard to do I know because I tried to carry on as normal and now my well being isn't well, not a nice place to be.. I haven't heard of any of your drugs, there must be so many to choose from..lol.. Good luck with work next week and don't overdo it , it will just cause you more pain and misery and delay recovery.. Hmmm typing doesn't seem the best work to be doing for a painful shoulder. Have you been offered any cortisone injections or anything? I like the sound of zopiclone, I wake up feeling like I'm ready to go to sleep... Anyway, look after your shoulder .......
