Is it safe to have an Orgasm

Hi there,

I'm now just over 5 weeks post rectocele and perineum repair. Although I know I can't have penetrative sex (Nor am I ready) for at least another week or so.... I'm just wondering if it's safe to orgasm yet? I don't want to undo the work down there!! Don't know if the muscles contracting  will damage things?? 🤔 Thank you x

Hi, I don't have a medical background at all but I have had anterior, posterior repair and sacrospinous fixation about 13 weeks ago. I found orgasms helpful during recovery for confidence to check that muscles still working circulation flowing etc and feeling of well being and for feeling of  closeness with my long suffering, patient husband. I don't believe it did me any harm at all, but maybe I am biased! We didn't try  penetrative sex until 13 weeks and I was so relieved that when we did it didn't hurt and  was pleasurable so worth the wait. I was advised by my urogynaecologist at a check at 7 weeks that my skin and tissues were healing slowly and I need to rest some more and not exercise or have intercourse until at least 12 weeks to allow for further healing.   My healing has been slower because of atrophy because of hormonal changes and apparently redheads can take longer to heal. However, it seems as if everything is progressing in nicely, finally and sex is back on the agenda! I would try orgasms but wait until you feel comfortable before full sex even if this is beyond the so called magic 6 weeks etc, which proved to be a mirage in my case! Good luck and take care.

Hi there, thanks so much for replying! I think I'll be way past 6 weeks before I try full sex... can't imagine it right now 😰 But I'm missing closeness with my partner. I'm scared it's going to scare him.... still swollen a bit down there.... hence another reason for not being ready... even at the magic 6 weeks.

I'm so glad things are good for you... I'm hoping mine will be as successful. Xxx

    Hi

I also have zero medical training, but after my anterior, posterior and vault suspension was told more or less to 'go for it' re orgasms - just make sure you DO NOT bear down.
