Is it safe to split citalopram?

My doc gave me 10mg pills, he told me to start with cutting the pills in half for a week even if they were uneven sizes. The first pill I cut, I felt really tired and sleepy, when I took the half the next day I felt nervous and jittery, like i've had a cup of coffee. Yesterday I took a new pill, took half and felt tired again, today I took the other half and I felt this anxious energy again.

It seems as if a newly cut pill makes me tired, and the half pill that has been cut for 24 hours gives me this nervous energy.

what could this be? i wont see the doc until next week

It's all startup side effects, cutting them doesn't change how they affect you.

They will ease as your body adjusts.

all sounds pretty normal to me for the first two weeks thats how it will be whatever dose you are on just make sure you pill cutter is a good one and you shouldnt have any problems. Its just your body trying to get used to the medicine hang in there it will get better xx
