Is it time to seek professional help?

I am 19 years of age and I need advice. I have a great life nothing to be concerned about, yes I have been through tough times but everyone has. For the last 6 months, in particular the last 3-4 months I have been constantly down, crying, feeling lonely, being overly panicky and worried, had some thoughts of hurting myself, loosing weight Un intentionally however my partner (the only one i have consulted) keeps saying it's hormones and I'm being silly and I need to stop feeling sorry for myself. I have taken this on board but the feelings are taking over my life. I am a psychology taught and I know about CBT and various other methods to try and subside depressive emotions but nothing works. When is the right time to visit my GP or am I just being young and silly? TYIA.

That's like telling someone who is deaf to start listening! Depression is a chemical unbalance in the brain. Medication is needed along with CBT.
PLEASE, PLEASE, got to you gp, or it will get worse.
You can and will get better if you take the step to the go.
All the best x

I went about 4 months of similar feelings before I finally got help, and it completely turned my life around. I'll never regret going to my doctor and being diagnosed properly!
I got put on Zoloft & saw a counsiler for a few months, and even though I still slip into depressive episodes my life is so much better!
It's hard for other people to understand what you're going through- it's not something you can just snap out of. It's a long road defiantly not easy but soo possible!
