Is Lack of Sleep my Crohns Trigger

Posted , 3 users are following.

I have been suffering for nearly five years and was diagnosed with Crohns 2 years ago - Throughout my Crohns journey I often here of 'triggers' and when speaking to other sufferers they have always said try and establish what your trigger is - Don't eat onions, don't drink alcohol, don't eat this don't eat that, its your diet - During my time I have tried everything cut back on alcohol, healthy diet but I am no better off than when I do drink alcohol and don't watch what I eat!

I have always tried to think back to what my trigger is/was/could be but have struggled until Monday night - I had a longer day than normal I was up at 6am and didn't get back home to 11.30pm and was up again at 5.45am - Yesterday I felt absolutely terrible, I felt like I have been out partying, drinking and been up all night with no sleep in fact I actually felt worse than if I had been up all night drinking and partying - how is this ? Is this my trigger , looking back it ties in with when my daughter was born , the broken and lack of sleep caused flare ups and hospital visits on a more common basis but as my daughter has grown up and now thankfully sleeps nearly twelve hours a night the flare ups and hospital visits are less common

Is lack of sleep a trigger? does anyone else suffer?

    Hi James

It's more likely it's general stress that is a trigger,  rather than lack of sleep.

Crohn's can make sleep difficult anyway if it's active!!

As for the diet and don't eat this and don't eat that.......I hear your pain.

Sometimes it really doesn't matter what you eat......when you're bowel is unhappy it will repel everything!!

Eating and living a healthy lifestyle is always going to be better for you......and everyone, but it isn't a 'cure'.

It's possible that you are deficient in essential vitamins and minerals as a result of disease activity and that. Oils be making you feel worse. Always worth getting it checked as it can be fairly strait forward to rectify.

    Take care

One of the biggest thing that can cause a flare is STRESS on the body. My 2 biggest flares were during puberty and during pregnancy. This lack of sleep could b stressing u out 2 a point where u r getting a flare up. So it might not b the lack of sleep but what the lack of sleep is doing 2 ur body.
