Is loosing my memory & speech a part of Fibromyalgia. does anyone else suffer? Or is it my meds?

A couple of years ago before I had my accident and I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia I was bright, had a brilliant memory and my speech was perfect, I was a straight A student with qualifications in business and hospitality. But now since I've been diagnosed and I've been on medication I find it hard to remember things and I can't speak properly, I get my words mixed up and they come out wrong.. It's getting worse by the day. Both of these get really frustrating! And people are starting to correct me sad

Some people have said it could be the medication I'm on, but my GP's have told me to ask for your help as they don't really know much about it.

Does anyone else suffering with this? Or is it just me?

I need some answers and it's so frustrating, Not only am I in pain all the time but I also feel stupid, I only left school a couple of years ago. I'm 20. This is all so confusing rolleyes

My husband is dealing with the same symptoms as you but it's not fibro, or meds it's Rocky Mountain spotted tick fever and lyme disease, it mimics fibromyalgia in a lot of ways. I have Fibromyalgia was confirmed just today, his symptoms are a bit different than mine. He has wide spread pain but is forgetful, can't remember things and his speech is off. He can't get the words out. Might check it out. He never had the rash but is a hunter and has been in the woods all his life. Good luck I hope you find answers.....

I was diagnosed with fibro back in May. The only meds I'm on is Gabapentin and I to get those symptoms. I teach 4 year olds and they think it's hilarious when I mess up words when I'm reading I story. I find it gets worse when I'm tired or stressed so when it does happen I try to take a step back, take a deep breath and calm myself down. Hard I know but unfortunately I think it's just another part of fibro we have to work with and not fight. Gentle hugs x

Hi kayleigh60814 I was diagnosed with fibro in 2014, ive had it for over 10 years. Ive only had memory sppech problems since having fibro. My gp sent me to a memory clinic to rule old alzhimers. The nurse I saw did different memory tests, she had seen 8 people includeing me who all had fibro. She said speech memory problems are fibro symptoms. memory problems is called fibro fog. google fibromyalgia symptoms google fibro fog. Im forever being corrected on words and coming out with the wrong words its down to fibro. take care

I started complaining of memory issues over 5 years ago. GP at that time said was due to stress. I've complained multiple times since then worrying over my memory issues. Last month was told have mild case of fibro. Explained was cause of my blank outs. "fibro fog"

The struggle with words, memory, blankness, are very concerning. To me they are anyhow. Alzhimers is a scary thing and have had several family members with it.

Rheumatologist doesn't seem concerned with anything but my hands and legs.

I have terrible problems with my memory de sent me to see a memory specialist she did tests put it down to fibro. But things have got worse dr said I may have the start of vascular dementia. Ive had an mri so if I am starting with that it will show up on mri. If I havnt then its the fibro thats caused my memory to get worse. I would go and see your gp with your concerns see if she will send you to a memory clinic. Just to rule out Alzhimers and put your mind at rest. Take care

Yes but I don't want you to think that it's fibro specific. The last year and a half I have had increasing memory issues but have also been dealing with a neck problem that has caused daily migraines and dizziness. I associate my memory issues with the fact that daily migraines/dizziness make it difficult to focus. However, my mother has had fibro since I was a kid, doesn't have migraines and has always just had a crappy memory.

As far as the speech issues, I often have difficulty remembering the word that I want to use and have to settle for something else, or I will use the wrong word that sounds similar and then have to correct myself. However, when I was first being put on medications for the migraines some of them made it impossible for me to get words out even though I knew what I wanted to say. One of my fibro medications in the past used to do this too but only while taking it, not say 12 hours later.

May I ask what medications you are currently taking? Perhaps someone on here is familiar with side effects. Also, you were diagnosed a couple of years ago and you mention an accident but what's the timeline between those two things and when you started seeing an increase your memory/speech problems?

Yes, memory loss is what is known as "fibro fog," as my neurologist referred to it as. It sucks, and I have it too!
