Is Milk the answer

There was RLS in the family father never knew what to call it in those days there wasn't a name he just used to say his legs were keeping him awake.

Mine started in the early 70's and now i'm 65 and have tried just about anything anyone could recommend.

I'm not a good sleeper and after 10 - 15 minutes the legs would start to go and to make it go away get up for 10 mins and walk about or stand on a cold floor have even been known to stand in the bath till my feet are very cold.

Well over the last month i thought i would try Milk but not only this, i have stopped eating spicy or salty food of any type stopped drinking juices & fizzy drinks after 8pm & i go to bed at 11-30 nightly. So 2 glasses of milk in 3 + hours every night now for 31 days & the restless legs are very much all good now i do get the odd twinge and last night after lying awake most of the night and thinking it's bound to come back but it didn't.

May be it's phychological but it's worth a try don't expect miracles in the first few nights give it a couple of days.

I shall be very interested to hear if it's worked for you as well if so please please reply.

    Hi Andy

There is no doubt that diet affects RLS in some people.   The actual food that upsets you varies between people.   The best way to find if the diet solution applies to you and how to cope with the problem is to use a bit of science.   There are a couple of organisations that have done work to help.  Monash University in Australia have developed the FODMAP diet and The Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Australia has developed a low chem diet.    I suggest the FODMAP diet is a good statring point and if it doesnt provide acceptable relief then try the low chem diet.

In your case you might only have found your intolerances but for most people they are not easily found and dont follow what might appear to be logical.   THey are, of course, very logical but unless you understand the science then its not so easy.     To anyone else I would suggest you search the internet for theses diets and if you have any questions get back to me and I might be able to help

I had RLS for 50 years and the low chem diet has practically removed the symptoms   Give the FODMAP diet up to 12 weeks before deciding that its not working.   Some people have reported "cure" overnight or in a week so good luck

Check with your doctor before going on any drastic diet.    If your doctor says the diet wont help just ask if you are healthy enough to go on the diet and try it out.    Try to get help from a dietician    -  its not easy to follow the diet and its really not easy to introduce new foods once the diet has worked.   Ask the dietician if they have experience with the diets before you waste time finding they dont know what they are talking about.    You will be told that FODMAP is designed for IBS     That doesn't mean it wont help RLS

Better than the drugs if it works for your body

    Cheers
