Is rubber band ligation worth it? please help

Posted , 4 users are following.

Hello,

I'm 35 years old and have dealt with hems for 10 years, anyway I have a prolapsed internal hem and I'm looking into the options I have, OTC stuff is not doing anything. Can someone please share their experience with this or other similar procedures?

Thank you in advance! 😃

I had 4 bandings done with the CRH-O’Regan system. It was a breeze, especially compared to the Hemorrhoidectomy. While you do feel pressure after, it passes. I wish it had worked, but it did not, only on the smaller hems. One large hem became prolapsed which subsequently required the surgery and there were others that were too large so it didn't work. I would say definitely try it, as it is the less invasive option.

      Hi Jan,

Thank you for sharing your experience, yes I've heard of the CRH O'Regan system and it looks very promising compared to the regular rubber band ligation. What grade of hems did you have? I have 1 degree 3 and 2 degree 2, I'm still waiting to see the surgeon which is taking forever.

      Thanks again!

I had Grade 4, which is considered severe. I did have some smaller grade hems - probably 1-3, and I do believe the banding may have worked on those. For the Grade 4 prolapsed it did not work which is why surgery was the only option for removal. I hope if you do get the O'Regan system that it works for you! It's a much better option than surgery.

The first 24 hours are very painful, like having your wisdom teeth pulled, but nothing like how a hemorrhoidectomy is described. Definitely do it. The first time I had it done I ended up with a fissure for 2 weeks that bled every time I used the restroom and felt like I had broken my tail bone. It still hurt much less than the hemorrhoid. The second time I didn't even notice when it fell off. Unfortunatley I have a third that is prolapsing and very painful and I'm having it banded on Thursday and considering hemorrhoidectomy. I only wish I had them banded sooner to prevent things from getting this bad.

I have 1 degree 3 and 2 degree 2 hems so I'm hoping the rubber band is the best option because the other procedures seem like a horror movie! What degree hems did you have?

      Thanks again.

I had my third done yesterday. The surgeon said he wasn't able to get very much, and seemed to think that I would still need surgery 😦. However, it didn't hurt at all. I had taken 350 mg hydrocodon. That made it feel like there was a slight pinch between my gluteus maximus and biceps femoris. I had noticed that sensation with the others as well, but this time I didn't notice where it actually hurt. The hydrocodon has worn off by now and I can definitely feel it, although it's not particularly painful. I made sure to take a stool softener and eat high fiber foods and drink some 100% fruit juice. I definitely don't want to get constipated. Again I just want to stress that if you ever have a chance to have your hemorrhoids banded get it done as soon as possible, you do not want to have to have surgery. I think my outcome would have been much better if I had this done a year ago before my fissure started, because once I had a fissure they wanted to treat that first before banding, so it took way too long.

2 and 3, both in and out. The third internal one is getting pretty bad now so I'm experiencing a lot of pain again, but I did have some relief from the others. There is still some pain from the first two if I'm sitting or lying in a certain way or at random times, but it's not that bad.
