is sedation safe

Hi I'm having my colonoscopy tomorrow and am dreading it. But I am a bit frightened about the sedation. Also having to drink all the moviprep after reading some of the posts, dr only referred me to the hospital on wednesday and got phone call yesterday to say come in sunday, its worrying me it being so quick, sorry for rambling on.

The sedation will relax you and supposedly blot out the memory of the procedure they can vary the amount to what you need. I seem to remember all of mine and just had two brief spasms of pain.

Hope that you get a good result.

Hi, I was dreading it when I had mine done 2 years ago, the preparation wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be and I had the sedation but to be honest I was aware of everything that was going on which wasn't that bad and was fine afterwards, it isn't the most pleasant procedure to have done but it certainly wasn't as bad as I was expecting. Good luck for tomorrow.

Thanks for your feedback, just sat waiting now to start prep at 6pm, already got a bad tummy without it.

Can't go out to take mind off tomorrow, need to be near toilet already without prep !!

6pm? Do you take another dose in the morning? But it sounds like your half way there already:-)

I twice had X-Prep that was to be taken at 4pm. Not knowing how it would act I left work at 3pm in case of having an accident on the train going home.

I don't understand why all hospitals have their favourite laxative and all taken at different times and with different dietary advice.

Make sure that you drink plenty up to the deadline. I was not supposed to drink after 6am but slept till 7.45 and could not have anything then as a result I was dehydrated.

On a Sunday? NHS or Private hospital?

Our local NHS often do evening and weekend appointments. I had a CT scan on a Saturday afternoon.

Hi, had my colonoscopy yesterday, decided when I got in there not to have sedation. Now wish I had had it, bowel kept going into spasm, but all over now and glad I had it done. They found one small polyp which they cut out, and took four biopsys, but she said everything looked ok and she thinks I have functional ibs.

Thankyou everyone reading the posts on here helped Annie.

Glad that you got good news. I was concerned that as your doc got you such a quick appointment that he suspected a serious problem.
