Is Selincro/Nalmefene Not Working?

Posted , 7 users are following.

I have been taking Selincro for almost two months now and am worried it isn't working. The only change I have made is to start having one day off alcohol per week. On the Selincro/Nalmefene days though I can still quite easily polish off two bottles of wine as the desire is there. I have been taking the Selincro at least 90 minutes before drinking.

I was just wondering if anyone else had noticed little change in their drinking habits this long into taking Selincro?

Hi Odishon, I too am having a similar problem, I have been taking for 9 weeks and it does seem to help, I dont guzzle really fast like I used to but I have still had a few nights where my consumption has been over 20 units (I was hoping to halve this at the very least!).  My overall weekly consumption is down by between 10 & 20 units though so I guess thats a good start.  I am going to keep trying and hope that slowly really heavy nights disappear.  Em

Thanks for the reply. The first two weeks for me I definitely felt a difference then the effect seemed to go.

I think like you I am drinking more slowly than I was and with less urgency when I'm socialising. I also hope to have cut down much more by now though.

PS  After my "blow out" nights I now feel really bad (physically) which I didnt use to so prehaps that's part of the returning to the level of a normal drinker, all a step in the right direction - cant face another blow out the day after!

Try leaving a two hour gap between taking a pill and drinking. Also, remember that it is no longer active after 8 to 11 hours (consider it 8 to be on the safe side). Don't drink when not protected or it undoes all the good the drug is doing you if some slip through and hit your opioid receptors.

Our clients have ALL seen the drug work very well if they only drink within the active period of the drug.

I noticed a change on the second tablet , but now on the third tablet , I am just feeling a bit drunk and want to drink more !! Maybe it's too early for it to kick in 😱 I so want this too work

Leave it two hours between taking the pill and drinking and then, only drink for a maximum of 6 hours to ensure that you are protected for every drink. If some slip through, you could find that your drinking doesn't reduce as it should.

Not sure what you mean, Kathryn. You had your first drink three hours after you took the pill?

sounds tricky Kathryn and you have your family to think of as well. Lots of responsibilities which puts pressure on and then one drink and another and another...sorry to be negative but there is only one way forward..no drink at all keep trying to stop and probably through medicine. Paul on this forum gives great advice and has lots of experience! smile Best of luck
