Is somebody playing a joke on me?

So, I am 7 weeks post op my second hip this week. I have had problems with this hip since day one. I had previous nerve damage from cancer surgery and the surgeon had to lengthen my leg a great deal this time. He had warned me that I would probably have bad nerve pain after the surgery. Well, he was correct. I told him to amputate or sedate me the day after surgery. He didn't, lol! Anyways, at my 2 week appointment to have my stitches clipped I was still in a great deal of pain and he talked about a nerve block. We decided to wait, because nerves sometimes just need time to settle down. Well, I've been counting down the days until my 8 week appointment. I've wanted to call everyday and tell him I'm not improving and my pain is awful. Well, on Tuesday I got a call from the fracture clinic at the Hospital thinking it was just a reminder of my appointment next week. The guy on the phone said that my appointment was cancelled and was rebooked for January 5 of next year. I told him I needed to see the surgeon as I was having problems and he told me to call his office. So after we hung up, I tried to call the surgeons office. The line was busy for an hour. Finally when I got through, I told them my appointment was cancelled next week. She asked me why? I told her I didn't know and that I thought he must be away next week. She had no idea why it was cancelled and couldn't believe that my next appointment was in January. So, the only appointment she had was at 8:00am on the same day my appointment was. That doesn't sound too bad, but if you guys have ever heard of what traffic is like in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, you would understand. My normal drive is about 1 hour, I have no idea what time I will have to leave and sit in traffic to get there for 8:00. Oh yeah, did I mention that when I told her what time my original appointment was, she said no, you don't have an appointment then. My appointment time had already been taken. I just don't understand what happened. I am just annoyed by the entire situation. I can't believe the guy who called to cancel my appointment wouldn't let me keep it even after I told him I was having problems and have just had a hip replacement. Argh!!!  Oh well. When I see my surgeon next week and let him know what has happened to me, some heads may spin. After being a patient in the health care system for so many years, I just wonder why certain people don't listen to, or should I say don't hear what patients are saying?

I can only echo Gaby's comments - totally unacceptable treatment.

I now know just how lucky I was to have such a small amount of pain post-op.

    Hope your situation improves quickly.

    Best regards

Oh you poor girl, you have lots of healing thoughts coming your way from australia. I have already had a couple of downloads on this site about my treatment from Dr's and the lies and mis-information, which when I get home I can find lots on Dr to Dr articles on the internet about my exact problem. I have after 9 months become so totally fed up with the lies, and have filed a complaint with the ombudsmans office, to date I have been contacted and told my complaint has merit, and it is going foward for further examination, if they come back with nothing to be done I will be talking to a lawyer.

Hello fellow Canadian....I am 62 and had my right hip replaced August 2014 and live in Aurora, but I had my surgery done by Dr. Alan Gross at Mt. Siani...just wondering who you have?  If I had my surgery done close to home i.e. Newmarket, I would have waited 3 months and received someone with a good bedside manner.  I was warned about Dr. Gross and my pre op appointment was less than 2 minutes and any questions I had he poo pooed them making me seem like a hillbilly from the North...

he acknowledged that I had to have both hips done and did the right because it was slighly worse, but I've been waiting l.5 years for my left...when I call the receiptionist answer is no set date for surgery, don't call us we will call you!!!! What is that all about?  I tried emailing her and asked to be put on a cancellation list, to which here reply was "everyone is on the cancellations list"...so here I wait, no better off than before my right hip was done because I'm in so much pain with the left I still am so limited as to what I can do I'm almost housebound???  I hear on this site some people talk about the interaction between themselves and their doctors, and oh how I envy them..

They say the squeeky wheel gets oiled first (or something like that), so just keep at them and don't let them treat you with disrespect.....

Big hugs CanadianGirl ~ so sorry you are going through it. It sounds really awful. Could you not simply rock up to the nearest emergency unit and stay there until you are seen. Sometimes we have to insist on care, if it is not offered. It is unacceptable to leave you like this.

I so hope they will come up with a solution for you asap

Big hugs from all of us hippies here in the UK xx
