Is there an official test or physical diagnosis for Prostatitis

I was diagnosed with prostatitis years ago. Went to a Urologist and he said based off what you said sounds like prostatitis. Fast forward to now with my recent high PSA and Biopsy with a new urologist. I asked about actual test for Prostatitis and I was informed again that there was no actual test we go by symptoms, I then asked there are 4 different types how do you know what kind you have if there is no actual test. I was just wondering if anyone else experienced this.

I have also been told I have prostatitis. I was diagnosed with a non aggressive prostate cancer after a biopsy. My PSA was up to 5.6. The biopsy confirmed a non aggressive prostate cancer. So I opted for treatment to get rid of the cancer. I chose Brachytherapy which is low dose radiation seed implants. A one time treatment done as an outpatient. After the biopsy, I had a bout with prostatitis and took antibiotics for 2 weeks. I have had prostatitis in the past as well. My primary care doctor told me that it is hard to diagnose it because of the way the prostate is formed which is in layers. He also said that because of that, the antibiotics have a hard time getting inside the prostate to kill the bacteria. So they usually will prescribe the antibiotics based on your symptoms... it is an uncomfortable situation. Good luck to you.

I had the same experience as you. I told my Doctor my symptoms, and he said the exact thing thing as your Doctor told you.  He put me on antibiotics, and after a  few days my symptoms went away.

Hello Roger, It's good to see that you are doing well. It's been a while for both of us. I just had my 2 year check up with my urologist. My PSA is up slightly from 0.14 six months ago, to 0.2. He says that is nothing to worry about. He said after treatment, sometimes there is something called a bounce, where the PSA level goes up a bit. He said from the 0.14 to 0.2 is not a bad thing. I still have symptoms of prostatitis sometimes. I think that I get some discomfort from sitting for long periods. I am involved with a car club and I do the newsletter, and also the E-News mailings. So there are times I sit at the computer for longer periods... I hope all is well with you and that life is good. Take care.

      Hello Charles,

Great that you are doing well, I had a bad case of Acute bronchitis, just getting over that.  No more symptoms of prostatitis, very thankful for that. I am due for a yearly check up around  1st of April.

I also sit a lot, but I do drink lots of water, maybe that helps. Good to see you on the forum. I was wondering how life was with you. Take care Charles, and stay in touch.

Hi Roger, yes - water is good for prostatitis. I am taking antibiotics now as a matter of fact for prostatitis - ciprofloxicin. I am also taking a pro-biotic along with that just to keep the good bacteria going. The symptoms are getting better since I've been on the antibiotics. I have to drive to Dallas tomorrow so that will mean about 4 hours in the car. It will be a short trip - I'll return on Thursday. But that will be a lot of sitting in the car. So I'll have to watch my water intake while on the road so I don't have to stop to pee every few miles. rolleyes

      Take care,

      Charles
