I have been taking 10mG Bisoprolol daily for more than 5 years. I have asked my GP to reveiw the medication but have been told there is nothing better although I have had no tests other than blood. I have significant sleep problems and feel drowsey all the time although I have no clest pain. I have just lost 5 years and havent been able to do anything. Is there any alternative which does not have the side effects?

I was on Bisoprolol for around 5 years. I was prescribed 5mg daily then was increasd to 10mg daily. I eventually found out through my own trial and error that I was able to take 7.5mg a day and this provided me with a balance of good and bad effects, i.e. controlled my Afib and real bad ectopic beats and had some but not too many side effects. Main side effects for me were tiredness, dry eyes, lucid dreams and nightmares (some of which were absolutely hilarious and some horrific - but an experience nonetheless) and also I would suffer sweating and hot flushes even in freezing cold. I tried many others including Diltiazem, Atenolol, Sotalol, Flecainide - all of which did not suit me or gave me even worse effects than the Afib. For example I suffered a Wide Complex Arrhythmia with the Flecainide and had heart block with the Sotalol. Bisoprolol was always the lesser of two evils for me. However, I had an ablation in March 2013 for my Afib and have been effectively "cured" for the last almost 2 years. Suddenly, last week, for no apparent reason I started to have real bad ectopic beats after doing some exercise. I went into Afib 3 times last week and I am now back to square one after all this time. I have had to start taking Bisoprolol again and am now awating the GP to re-refer me bck to my cardiologist. AAAAARGH!!!
