Is this a bruise or fungus?

so i have not been taking care of my feet like i used to, i remember about 2 months ago i got gel nails and when they took off my previous color my toe nail was black underneath but i didnt look clearly, i just assumed it was a bruise because something had fell on my toe before then and was pretty painful. i havent went to get a pedicure since and i took of the gel polish myself by peeling them (ya i know not the best way) but i was just going to file them down. i noticed i still have it and i can see it clearer now, i cant tell if its a bruise of fungus and if its a bruise why hasnt it went away? should i go see a doctor?

Looks just like the bruise I had on my big toe a couple years back. Got it the same way, dropping a heavy object.

Saw a doctor about it, and had it X-rayed. The doctor said the bruising could last up to 6 months and sometimes the nail falls off, and rarely an infection can occur.

For me, the pain went away in a couple days, and the bruising lasted about 4 months.

You should be OK, just be vigilant about checking for infection, which is unlikely if the nail wasn't broken.
