Is this a common anxiety symptom?

My neck feels really tight and sore and I also feel like I'm about to choke. The pressure is pretty uncomfortable and I was wondering if this is a very common symptom of anxiety. I never experienced any neck tension or stiffness before until now. And I'm really concerned if I might die on my neck feeling tight. Is there any advice I can do to relieve this tension? I have been pretty stressed and depressed lately, but my doctor thinks it's mostly from stress and anxiety. Has anyone had this symptom before and how they dealt with it?

yes!!! I have definitely felt like choking, and its really affecting my breathing. I try to do yoga, drink hot tea, and put some warm electric pad on my neck to relax it. It feels better when you don't think about it. You can't die from it. Definitely, if you can, try some counseling to talk about your stress and how to manage it.

Thank you so much for the response and helpful advices! I will definitely try out these home remedies and give them a try when I can. And I'm actually booking an appointment with a therapist next week, so hoping this can really workout for me, I'm just sick and tired of dealing with severe anxiety symptoms.

that's great to hear you are getting a therapist! Keep us posted if that helps. Does your neck tension cause breathing problems? I feel like I'm breathing through a collapsed straw, which is awful. Wishing you all the best in your recovery, it will get better!

Hi Linda ! Yes i have this too for about 2 years now. First started with an almost choking incident and now i got anxiety from swallowing that causes tension on my neck and sensation on my throat.

What i do is to distract myself from swallowing too much and instead drink a nice glass of hot drink like cocoa or coffee or tea.

Hot compress on my neck also helps and lavendar oil is great to put around your neck and under your ears for added relaxation.

Hope all will be well with you!
