Is this a mental health issue? Need help

My partner has been suffering from severe anxiety, paranoia and low self esteem for a year now due to a previous relationship. He went to see the doctor who prescribed sertraline tablets. These worked for a while but he's gone back to how he was before and we can't get an appointment with gp for 3wks.
He has completely hit rock bottom now. He accuses me daily of cheating, constantly saying evil, vile things and barricading me either in or out of rooms so I can't get help. This weekend was the worse I've ever seen him
When he gets into one of his rages he normally puts holes in walls or doors but yesterday I took several blows to the face and body from his fist and headbutts until it climaxed with him threatening to kill himself with a knife. I know people will say to call the police and leave him but it's not that simple. He only has me as his support network and I really don't want to see him hurt himself or try and deal with this alone.
I really do not know what to do for the best or what avenue to go down. Im scared that one day he will either kill me or himself if he doesn't get help soon

Hi Abby.
This does sound like some sort of serious mental health problem. Please talk to the receptionist and tell them the problem and it is an emergency. If they will not see you before Christmas holidays to an A&E department. In the meantime if he attacks you again, then please phone the police straightaway. Even if you do not want him to get in trouble. If it's a mental health case you have the option to drop charges anyway. They may not prosecute if it was because of a mental health issue.
It certainly needs you though you either get yourself to a place of safety, or go for the emergency GP route, or A&E. Dare I say you need to do both!
I know you care for him, but you need to be safe first and foremost if you are going to be able to help him.
Kind Regards, Sarah.
