I have developed severe pain in the left hip buttock back area which makes standing hard and walking harder especially as it makes me bend over / forward

Is this AS and if so what are my options re treatment

Thank you all in advance

Has your doctor referred you to a rheumatologist? The only way to know for sure if it is AS is to get an MRI of the SI joints and see a specialist.

Is the pain constant or does it improve at different times? For example does it get worse when you sit down for awhile?

How do you feel when you wake up in the morning?

To Lotsofpain...the sciatic nerves seem to be inflamed....but there is a reason for it...so I agree with Backtome....get an MRI and talk to your specialist. I always find it's a good idea to make a list of what you need to talk about before you go into the doctors office....sometimes we forget important things...which we should have talked about..Pour it all out to a good specialist.....and get on the road to some relief....Hugs..G

Difficult to answer on the limited information you have given. Do you wake up in the night with pain? Do you get morning stiffness, is it worse with movement or rest?

The description you have given could well be mechanical pain, which differs in that it is better when resting and worse when moving?.
