hi im 35 and have had a fluttery heartbeat for years,i had an ecg and was told it was normal and down to anxiety. ten years later the flutters have become all the time and then 5 weeks ago i started having palpatations,my heart will race and beat irregulary.it lasts a few mins then stops.i had another ecg on tues and it picked something up,my gp said it looks like my atrial on the right side is firing off too many beats.im awaiting blood test results as she said it could be an overactive thyroid.does this sound like af ?

Sounds like you need to see a cardiologist

That sounds very similar to how mine started, for years they said I had GAD the. One day went to hospital feeling really rough and the ECG showed this

Do you have any other symptoms ?

    Hi Jo,

I'm only a patient so not medically qualified but there is anecdotal evidence I've come across in other forums and online to suggest a link between thyroid and AF. I had palpitations frequently for 2 and half years before AF hit me ... when I was admitted to A & E I was told it was flutter on admission but during the night it converted to AF. I was ultimately treated for paroxysmal AF. With the benefit of the knowledge I have now acquired over the last 5 years I would ask my GP for a referral to an EP - an Electrophysiologist - a cardiologist who specialises the the hearts electrical circuitry. The Atrial Fibrillation Association  on its website has a directory of EP's in an area near you if you are in UK.

    Hope this helps.

Hello- Sounds familiar. I've lived with irregular heartbeats since I was 20 and now I'm 43. I had a heart ablation done almost a year ago because I went into Tachycardia and the hospital couldn't get my rate down. I am see a new EP surgeon who has me on a halter because my heart pounds walking not a long distance. I hope everything turns ok and if does turn out to be your heart I would suggest meds before surgery first. That surgery changed my lifestyle completely. Best of luck.
