Im 20 years old, never smoked or drank, no family history of heart disease. I have always gotten these weird feelings of my heart fluttering since I was like 4 years old. But a few days ago, It felt like my heart was fluttering and spazzing for like 7 seconds straight and I got so dizzy. Im always so scared of dying. in the last 4 months I have been to the ER 4 times, have seen 2 cardiologists, have done chest X-rays, 6 ECGs, an echocardiogram last novemeber, and a 30-day holter monitor. The doctors said they did not find anything wrong in those. Could they have missed something? Can anxiety really cause fluttering this badly? I also get chest pains and dizziness.

    Hi

In a word..yes. Anxiety can cause your heart to flutter. Palpitations are when ur heart beats too fast or misses a beat or there can be an extra beat..or it feels like ur heart flutters. I have these every single day....quite a few actually and sometimes I go dizzy or feel faint. Doctors call them eptopic heartbeats which cant harm you although it certainly makes me feel as though my heart could stop any second! The more anxious you are the worse they are. Its a vicious circle. The only way to reduce or stop them is by being calm. Difficult if your palpitations cause your anxiety as ur anxiety then causes palpitations. If that makes sense. I know people have been prescribed betablockers for this and/or anxiety medication. Counselling or talking therapies can also help. I hope this helps x

Thanks so much for the reply. Should i just accept that it is anxiety? My psychiatrist is pretty convinced that It is anxiety as well.
