Hello. It does not look like herpes nothing about it does but that dies not mean anything. Please go get blood test or swabbed just to make sure.

swab facility is not available in my country. i had blood tests twice at 3 and 6 months, hsv1&2 igg igm, all negative but the dermatologist still maintains that it is herpes...maybe balanitis due to herpes...really confused...how accurate is PCR test?

pct isn't the most reliable test tell them you want type specific IgG testing. it can be bacterial and if negative for both types you would of had the classic outbreaks

when it started, it was something like this

then after taking one antifungal medicine it became like this but then it recurred

antifungal or antiviral? what was the medication you took? was this after or before your diagnosis and did your doctor prescribe it?

i took an anti fungal drug and applied antiviral ointment. the doctor said that it was herpes.

Do you have any characteristic symptoms? I cant tell from the photos, but are the bumps blister like? Do they break open and ooze at some point? THere is often a loss of dermis and epidermis after they break open, which gives them the classic herpetic ulcer (crater) look and they ooze, almost like a weeping. That oozing hardens and crusts over the lesions. THen they begin to heal. Also exquisitely painful is what most describe. Have you experienced this? Also, PCR is a molecular test that amplifies a specific genetic sequence unique to the virus. Meaning, if they swab you and its positive, then you surely have herpes with a PCR test because it can only amplify the specific sequence--nothing else. However, if there isnt enough DNA (herpes is a ds-DNA virus) present, perhaps the swabs were taken too late in your outbreak or you simply dont have herpes, it wont work because it wont be able to amplify a sequence that isnt there. I hope that makes sense. Your antibody test is far more challenging because the tests are quantity sensitive and people are proving to be quite different when it comes to building antibodies against herpes. It isnt a failproof test. If your doctor diagnosed you, I would trust them or get a second opinion. IF you are being prescribed antivirals and its working, then you almost certainly have herpes. Doctors have seen enough patients to diagnose you, i know its difficult to trust them 100%, but make sure you ask enough questions to force them to explain their reasoning behind your diagnosis. If you think its misdiagnosed, get a second opinion, and swab immediately when you have an active outbreak. The more fluid they can acquire from the papules, the better probability of detecting and strain typing the herpes with PCR.

the bumps are pimple like, not soft but firm and they are more like raised skin and spaced out. after taking medication, they break open and there is no fluid, ulcer or scabbing of any kind, just something like dead skin peeling off. the bumps or ulcers cause no pain, itching, or discomfort. The only reason I thought this was herpes was that they happened after a week of sex with a sex worker and that it recurred once after 7 months. The HSV IGG and IGM (1&2)tests at 3 and 6 months were negative. The doctor gave me antiviral meds along with an anti fungal one(just in case), I only took the anti fungal one along with the topical antiviral ointment, the bumps got cleared up in a day and then reappeared twice, only 1 bump at a time. I don't know what to do and feel really depressed.

swab test is not available in my country and also herpes doesn't get cleared up completely in 1-2 days if i am not wrong? if you search 'candida balanitis' on google, my symptoms are exactly like that in visual just without the itch and discomfort.

You need to contact your doctor ASAP and ask them WHY they prescribed you both?! Either they suspect both or one over the other, but arent sure. Im not sure how quickly ulcers clear once you take antivirals, but from what Ive read they do shorten the outbreak. You need your doctor to clarify what the diagnosis is. You can do your own experiment by not taking your antifungals when you get another outbreak. Just use the antiviral, if it continues to heal the way it did, shortening the outbreak, then its probably herpes. Also, the antibody test is more accurate as time progresses. So in 6 months you should take the antibody test again. Herpes is amongst the most widespread sexually transmitted disease, so the sex worker you engaged with is extremely high risk. If I were you, I would start to accept the possibility that you have herpes. The probability is high, the incubation period is accurate, and it is very unlikely that you got a yeast infection from the sex worker. My suggestions are to clarify with your physician and when you get the next outbreak, use an antiviral only or an antifungal only; use one or the other and monitor what either one do to symptoms/lesions and duration of the outbreak. From what youve described, I think that its very likely you have herpes. The antivirals can help lessen the amount of outbreaks you have. I would discuss supressive therapy with your doctor. They can prescribe a tablet antiviral that will reduce the number of outbreaks you have during the first year, when outbreak recur most frequently. I know its not what you want to hear, but by accepting it now means you can start the healing process and focus on how to manage it. If it comes back that your antifungals are whats working and not the antivirals and six months from now youre still negative, then you can be thankful, but youre just not out of the clear. Its not the end of the world, remember that herpes is just a skin condition. You are more than a diagnosis ok!

The first time this happened was in March '19, at that time the doctor prescribed antiviral tablets and acyclovir ointment. I took them for 1 week and there was no improvement at all, I mean that already I never experienced any pain but even after taking the medicines for a week the bumps were still there, so I went back to the doctor and this time he gave me an anti fungal tablet, which after taking cleared up the bumps in 2 days. The dermatologist is quite old and forgot all this, this time he said it looked like herpes although I can confirm that the symptoms are exactly like candida balanitis, because the bumps appeared after I washed my penis everyday with soap which due to the season being winter, caused dryness and odour and I already had phimosis since childhood so there was more of a chance of balanitis. I never have any outbreaks even if I indulge in sexual activities multiple times a day or when I am in considerable amount of stress. This time he gave topical antiviral and anti fungal in drug form. However, because of your recommendation I will take the test again and make sure to use protection every time.
