Is this how PC presents itself?

Just turned 38 and I have had an inflamed prostate on and off for several years.  In 2015 to early 2016 I struggled almost every day with prostatitis as I had lower back pain, pain while sitting, sometimes after ejaculating. The last few months it has been similar but I also have pain in on the left side above my penis almost in the upper pelvic region. Saw urologist a month ago and prostate felt swollen but no bacteria as always. It comes and goes but I am worried maybe I have PC and my urologists have not detected? Had PSA early 2016 which was 1.6 during an episode of prostatitis. She did not feel I needed the test right away this year as it felt normal and only if it doesn't approve would she test.

Should I be worried it's cancer or better yet what else should I look for?

    Hi Brian,

You sound like you are having a miserable time to say the least.

To put your mind at rest, you need an MRI scan and biopsy, then you can move forward.

Get a second opinion if necessary as you need this sorted.

    Good luck and best wishes.

Let us know how you get on

Cancer is often a silent killer. That's why tests and monitoring are often the way it is detected, rather than the sufferer realising there's something amiss. You have several symptoms, none of which, as far as I know, are in themselves indicators for cancer. Rational concern is more helpful than worry!

Brian, having inflammation or infection can raise your PSA, my husband had no symptoms other than low back pain, I got fed up with his moaning about it, I booked him a GP appt. Glad I did, she did routine bloods and said you are over 60 (he was 62 at time) I will check your PSA, came back at 12, anyway MRI and 2 biopsies later told PC in one part, had it removed last November robotic, cancer was in the whole of it, so very lucky and so far two blood test's PSA undetectable. If GP wont do another blood test to put your mind at rest, then ask for a urology referral to put your mind at ease, my brother in law whose a lot  older, get prostatitis on a regular basis and no PC.

Hi, did the MRI show any signs/suspicion of PC?

My husband, 61,  has a fluctuating PSA between 10 to 11 and back down again, so other symptoms and the consultant said his MRI showed nothing suspicious but he has an enlarged prostate so it was up to him whether to have a biopsy or not but to continue with PSA testing and if it rises and rises then to have a biopsy but if it fluctuates up and down not to worry.
