Is this IBS?

I am not sure if this is IBS I have.

Symptoms are: feeling really sick, sometimes more severe than others like I am about to throw up. Usually on the same day or the following day my bowels will move several times and are very soft with the urgency to go. Can also experience a lot of wind when feeling sick.

I have suffered for several years with this and been in and out of hospital. Lots of tests done which have all been clear. Been put on anti sickness tablets which helped so I was able to eat as this was a struggle when feeling so sick. Also tried on Buscopan which made no difference. Kept lots of food diaries and cant work out what could be causing this. I can eat the same things one week and be fine then the following week not be!

Does anyone else get this? I don't suffer the usual symptoms that most people get with IBS like stomach cramps etc. Main symptoms with me seem to be feeling sick and the softer bowels, going several times.

Hi ellie,  you need to check out what this is but have you tried ginger,  it often helps my sickness.  Try it may help but take it regularly.

      Hi Sam,

Yes I have ginger tea to help settle my stomach on bad days. I also have anti sickness tablets prescribed by my doctor to take when really bad. I may try upping the ginger tea intake then to a couple of times a week like you suggested rather than just the odd time here and there!

      Thank You!

    Hi Elle,

I have been having the same problems. I have been to the doctor today and I am to be checked for celiac. I've always known I am a bit gluten intolerant and avoid white bread, lager, etc. I have had IBS problems all my adult life, but celiac includes more intolerances. I have since read about it on the net and it does make sense to me. The sickness is a new thing for me and anti-sickness tablets helped at first, but now have stopped. I have been advised to get all gluten back into my diet for at least two weeks before I have blood tests which will confirm, one way or another. Go see your GP and ask if this could be your problem?

      Hi Sharon,

Sounds like you could be celiac. I was tested for this at the very start of my issues and it came back clear for me. Hope you get to the bottom of your issue asap!!

IBS is a possibility. Ask your doctor about Irritable bowel.

      Hi Pippa,

My GP did give me buscopan for IBS but the tablets didn't help at all. Maybe there is other medication that can help though that they can prescribe.

There are many other antispasmodics that your doctor can prescribe that all work differently.  You may have to try several to find one that suits.  You could try Nurofen with Buscopan.  That combination works for me and I have IBS.  I was tried on Mebeverine which was a huge stomach irritant and I soon found out that a lot of people can't tolerate it   I haven't tried any of the other antipasmodics on the market.  However, your doctor will be able to advise you on one. fron Everyone's IBS is different.  My main symptoms are stomach pain, constipation or occasional diarrhoea or loose to urgent stools and on off nausea.

On wowcher just now you can get intolerance test done £19 they take a strand of hair and you post it off, isually £109 so I'm gonna try this for my husband he's had similar symptoms, just to really rule anything out x

Don't bother. Those tests aren't worth the paper they're written on. You can't test for food intoletences by hair, blood or any other way. Elimination diets are the only way.

      Allergies are different obviously.

I hadn't this done a few years back and it changed my life, had terrible issues and tried eliminating foods, everything i tried it all, in way IBS is causing a reaction similar to how the body reacts to allergen, inflammation and irritation. The test definitely helped me, and my problem disappeared within a month and it was soo detailed, I had been under GP for a year and had no relief at all, kept food diaries etc, always worth a shot if you're desperate for a bit of guidance why not 🙂

      Hi Vicky,

I did have a similar test done and eliminated certain foods and added them back in but it didn't really help me. Still nothing stood out from one week to the next. I'm glad it helped you! I'll need to go back to my GP.

      Thanks!

I hope you find some relief soon petal, with the items I wasn't allergic too i basically cut them completely out diet, and when I do eat them occasionally I do suffer but just now all is good without them, but I understand it's so difficult to rule one or two things out! I guess I'm just a bit luckier😘
