Is this Lichen Sclerosus? Pics included

Hi, the pictures aren't doing it justice but my vulva has indented areas that appear to be wrinkly and shiny. I also have small white circular craters on my pubic bone. It's itchy and burns sometimes and it looks whiter than usual. I did also have an ulcer on my clitoral hood which I was worried was herpes but now I'm starting to think it could be LS related and I was wearing tight jeans and uncomfortable knickers that rubbed. I want to go to a dermatologist but with lockdown I'm hesitant. Any help would be appreciated as I'm so down about it at the moment because I want to know what is wrong! image

Yes, that does look indented, but I'm afraid I have no idea if it is a symptom of LS. I have not experienced that , but I may not be a good comparison as my symptoms have never been very visually obvious. For starters I would absolutely stop shaving. You don't need additional irritation. Why not call a dermatologist or a gyn specializing in skin issues to see if they are scheduling appointments? A friend just went to a dermatologist (in the US) to have a wart removed so they are doing certain procedures. The sooner you get diagnosed the better. Best of luck.

Thanks so much for your reply! I read that LS can thin the skin but I wasn't sure if it was to that extent. Yes shaving is not helping! I'm in the UK so I think I have to call my doctor to be referred to a dermatologist so I will give them a call tomorrow. I just want to feel normal again!

If you get to speak with someone but cannot see them for a while ask if using a mild strength over the counter steroid cream would be appropriate. I think it would but I am not a medical anything, just a person with LS who knows the steroids do help.

    Hi Emily,

I'm also in the UK and managed to get a telephone consultation with a doctor for my LS and she is going to arrange for me to see a specialist once the pandemic has settled. I would suggest trying to book a telephone appointment just to get the ball rolling and hopefully you can get it looked at soon. Are you experiencing any other symptoms, any itching or soreness? x

Hi Olivia, ahh fab I'll get in touch with them tomorrow thank you! Yes it does itch and sometimes burn but it comes in waves. Would you say the pics look like it could be? x

It's difficult to say but it does look a little like it could be LS especially with the other symptoms you're having. When you get a doctor's appointment make sure you can speak to somebody who knows about LS as it's often misdiagnosed. Try and get referred to a skin specialist if you can xx

Hi Emily, I have LS and it looks like that on both sides for me. This year i found that my LS has been in bad flare ups back to back. my most recent one was yesterday and it doesnt itch. it gets red and burns/stings badly. i hope your able to book a phone appointment and maybe send pictures to your OB. try soaking or do a sitz bath to help. coconut oil will sooth it too.

Hi Mel, thank you for your response. I believe I have had this for about 6 months. I am either in a lot of pain or I have intense itching 😦 I will definitely get in touch with my doctor! I have been applying coconut oil which has helped! Can it cause ulcers as well if there is friction/irritation?
