Is this normal??

Posted , 5 users are following.

I was on 10 mg citalopram for almost 12 weeks when it was decided that it would be increased to 20 mg due to my anxiety being quite bad and worrying about everything. It has been 4 weeks tomorrow that I increased to 20 mg and not very good still. Im having diarrhoea and nausea on and off. Getting some horrible headaches, cant seem to think straight and my sleep is still none existant! Cant seem to sleep for more than 3/4 hrs every night. Im getting really worried that this isnt normal and things arent going to get any better. I do know that I cant increase anymore.... I really dont want to get any worse! I need some reassurance yet again....please anybody

    Hi Alison

What you are experiencing is perfectly normal after an increase in dosage.Unfortunately this is a long journey to wellness with these Meds but don't think you will never get well because you will but it takes months to achieve a level of wellness where your anxiety is minimal or non existent. Take heart in knowing that many of us have experienced the same lousy feelings during the adjustment period but they will pass I  promise!

Be kind to yourself and little by little you will slowly come out of it and feel so much better.Time and perseverance is what you need and reassurance.Let us know how you get on .We will always help and support you we've all been there.

    big hug xx

By the way if you are having trouble sleeping try taking the tablets in the morning.

I'm 3 weeks tmrw on 20mg, n I'm just a big tird. Don't feel happy, no energy, still have anxiety, I just lay about the house n wish I was normal. But it seems like this drug takes quite a while to take hold of u check around, so I'm giving it at least 2 more weeks, then, IDK.... Might b time to switch. Good luck to you.

    Hi Alison

dont worry I certainly didn't feel fine after four weeks ! Everyone responds differently and it takes time. Any increase in dose will often replicate the anxiety symptoms all over again but this too will pass. What you are experiencing is not uncommon hang in there!x

Hi Alison, I am in a similar situation although only 8 days on the 20mg. Still feel pretty lousy too. The only comfort I can offer is that other people have felt much the same and got through it. I have just taken a headache tablet now and have been very edgy this week, and lost more weight. Let me know how you are getting along and sending a hug your way.
