Is this normal?

Hi,

I had surgery for a lateral malleolus fracture of my right ankle 6 weeks ago, 7 weeks since I broke it and got out of the cast today, the pain on the bottom of my foot is so bad when I try and put weight on it. The physio had me walk round a bit with crutches, which I still have to use for now and the pain was really bad. This is my first broken bone so I have no idea if this pain is normal?

are you using the air boot cast now? Most of the time they use that to help transition to full weight bearing. It is normal to have pain as muscles have not been used for so long, it takes time, its a gradual process. physio is a big help.

Yes super normal. As Kaymac pointed out the muscles havent been used for so long, but also the nerves havent had input and have to readjust. When I started weight baring again whenever I was sitting down I would rub my foot back and forth on the floor to get the sensory connections working again.

Physio helped a lot, and massaging the foot, even though it was a ankle fracture. the foot was jammed up so much in the cast and the boot.

If you can - try walking in a pool - it helps build the muscles back in the correct walking motions without full body weight. It helped me a lot.
