Is this normal for a bruised bone?

In April I was kicking a ball and when I stopped I couldn't move my foot upwards. There was no pain, I just couldn't move my foot up or my toes up. A week later it was extremely painful and I couldn't put any weight on it so my dad persuaded me to go to A&E. I was in with the doctor for less than two minutes, he felt my leg and asked how it happened then told me I'd probably just bruised the bone. No other tests and he didn't give me any medication, just told me to rest it and keep ice on it for a few days. I did that and used Arnica cream on it, as I'd heard that might help. The pain disappeared and I could walk on it normally although it was still a little uncomfortable.

About four days ago (five months after first hurting it) I woke up one morning and it was really painful - not as painful as when I went A&E - and, although I could put my weight on it, I was limping. Now, it's quite painful, I can't really move my ankle upwards and I can't put much of my weight on it. When I walk it's not too painful it just feels incredibly weak and that it will snap at any moment. Is this normal for a bone bruise or should I go see my GP? I don't want to waste my GP's time if it's a normal part of the healing process.

I am supposed to be starting a Hairdressing course in a week, which obviously involves a lot of standing, however I can't put my weight on this leg at the minute. I've been having to put most, sometimes all, of my weight on my other leg and now, because of this, that leg is quite painful and that side of my hip aches a lot. I can't stay stood up for very long because of this.

Forgot to mention, when I first did this my foot was swollen for around two weeks. Last week when it started hurting again, it was swollen for the first day.

claire i think you should go back to a and e and ask for an xray.

sounds to me like you chipped a bit of bone....healing has begun but has not been long enough ...you might even need a cast depending on where the injury actually is. i would go now this min...specially as it'll be quieter...but phone first to ask if there's a radiographer on call....if not go in the am when xray is attended....but if you can be seen tonight it would be better for you as all the routine appointments will be happening during the day.... i would stress that you are in renewed pain and that its considerable.

let me know how you get on. you can text on a mob while waiting...incase they try to give you any b.s. !!!!!!!!!

    best wishes

Thank you for your reply. I went back to A&E, as you suggested, however they told me they couldn't do an x-ray without my GP's confirmation. So, I went straight to my GP he ordered an x-ray of my ankle and I got the results today (5 days after the x-ray). Apparently, the results said that everything was normal. I'm still having quite a bit of pain and I cannot stand on it properly. Should I go back to see my doctor?

Also, was it right that I told my doctor I had pain on the right side and the back of my right ankle yet the x-ray was of the left side and front of my right ankle? Would that have still got the problem area?

Also, recently my  problem foot has felt a lot colder than my other foot. As if my probelm foot has had ice on it when it hasn't. It seems to get colder the more I walk on it. I never noticed this in April and I don't think it was happening when I went to see the doctor.

(Sorry, forgot to put this when I posted my last reply.)
