So I am 7 weeks post op and cleared today for full weight bearing in the boot for a week and then I can ditch it when I'm comfortable. I'm having a hard time putting weight on my foot. Not because of pain but because it feels weird. I also don't have pain in my ankle but it seems all of my muscles and tendons are sore. And the bottom of my arch is sore when walking. Is this normal? Please tell me it goes back to normal!!!Oh and the swelling? I've had almost no swelling this while time until today. Now I am super swollen!!!

    Hey Melissa,

Yep that is totally normal. Took me about a day or 2 for my body to get used to using my ankle again. As for the swelling, it should go down the the more you use it to walk around. Mine swelling have went down a lot in 2 weeks. It is still a bit swollen, but not too much. Give it some time and eventually it should go away.

Oh that's so good to hear!!! I'm still walking with the crutches which is frustrating although it's only been since today I've been able to weight bear. I find I have to force myself to put weight on my foot and really concentrate on walking in the boot. How lomg does it normally take to be able to ditch the crutches?

It took me about a day to ditch the crutches. I would only do it when you feel comfortable though. I got used to it by walking very slowly without the crutches until I was more confident. Once your ankle get used to the weight again, it will be a lot better. I would practice maybe walking around with the boot and no crutches to see if you can get used to that weight. Then slowly get rid of the boot when you think you are ready. Everyone is a bit different though. Just listen to your body smile Good luck!

    Hi, Melissa!

It is totally normal to get sore. You have not been using your leg for almost two months, so body "forgets" how to walk normal. In addition you probably favoring your injured leg (at least I did) and it alters your stride. Try to walk in the pool with water about your waist line. It would resemble your normal walk as you weigh less in water. I wish you all the best and a speedy recovery.
