Is this normal or a sign of BV?

im not sure if this is normal or not since the vagina is supposed to have some kind of smell. for a long time now ive always had a strong smell that i can sometimes smell through leggings. i take a shower every other day and live in hot arizona so it may just be sweat. i was wondering how i can tell if it's BV or not. i dont use any soaps inside my vagina but even after showers or just laying in bed i have a smell that is sometimes fishy. i know the vagina has a natural musk but i find mine strong so i didnt know if i should be concerned for BV. my discharge is usually thick-ish and white but not a cottage cheese texture like a yeast infection. its never green but sometimes has a yellow tint. the discharge itself doesnt smell. also, my butthole and buttcrack always smell bad no matter how many times i take a shower and dry off. ive even started drying with a hair dryer to ensure no extra moisture. should i use antibacterial soap on my external areas (not inside to disrupt ph)? thanks in advance.

It's normal to have some degree of aroma from the vagina. From a slight musky to fishy would be considered normal. But if you feel that the smell is strong and is becoming a problem, there are some things you can investigate. If the strong smell is not due to an acute infection then I would start looking at your diet. Many foods can cause or exacerbate foul body odor. Seafood, garlic, asparagus and broccoli are the most well know culprits. Some medications as well as over the counter vitamins and supplements may be causing some issues as well. I would recommend you play detective and take note of the foods you eat and see if these are causing it. If you take any medications or vitamin supplements, do some research and see if these may be causing it. If you are unable to find any answers and still feel that your life is being negatively impacted by this problem then a checkup with your primary care provider may be in order. There are a few disorders that can present with strong body odor and your primary care provider would certainly be able to help you out.

It sounds to me like its BV especially since the odor is fishy, you should go get screened though to be sure and they can give you antibiotics for it.
