Is this really anxiety?? Or MS or ALS?

Posted , 3 users are following.

for the past five years I’ve had on again off again. Symptoms usually triggered by stress, and I’ve convinced myself at this point that I’m dying of one of the two ALS Or MS

I’m an athlete I am a anxious person but I’ve never been medicated before.

I have the strangest symptoms and my doctor recently told me it’s in my head. and if i had ALS after 5 years id probably be dead by now or in a wheel chair and not teaching jiujitsu .

Sometimes they last for weeks sometimes months.

ive had 3 MRI clean

my blood work is always good

And I’m in the middle of scheduling a spinal tap.

some of my symptoms are

jaw tightness

my teeth feel weird

neck pain

dizzy

lightheaded

burning in my hands feet and lips.

cant sleep for S**T

shortness of breath or feeling i need to yawn for air

inside shaking

nausea

vomiting

weak arms and legs

cramping arms and legs

fatigue

at this point, I can’t tell if it’s in my head and I’m making myself sick or I’m sick and haven’t found it yet.

Either way, this is been going on now for about a month and I’m just finally feeling better and getting out and walking

lost 17 lbs

i am taking Xanax and something called Amitriptyline

i guess i just dont understand how the symptoms

come and go???

does everyone with this anxiety have it CONSTANT or in waves ?? i cant comprehend whats happening to me.... does anyone else have these symptoms

Amanda I can tell you that I know exactly what you’re talking about. First of all, sensations due to anxiety and stress can definitely come and go. That has happened to me for years.

if you have had three MRIs that are clean then you do not have MS. Because that is the definitive test for MS.

and the doctor is right if you ever had these sensations for as long as you say, and you had ALS, you would not be here anymore.

I can also tell you that I have had and still occasionally get the same sensations that you get. I also thought I had MS or ALS. many people with symptoms due to stress and anxiety also think that.

have you had a great deal of stress and or anxiety in the past few years? What happens and what happened to me is that I have always had anxiety since childhood and it built up and up and one day in my 20s all of a sudden I had all of those same symptoms plus many more and I was freaking out! I told my parents I thought I had MS or ALS because I couldn’t explain the symptoms. On top of that I was super weak, ringing in my ears, floaters in my eyes, plus many of your same symptoms.

I had a lot of testing and it was all normal. Basically what happened is that my body, especially my nervous system had a break down due to all the stress. Remember the body can only take so much before it breaks down. And that’s what happened to me. So please think about that. You’re not going to die. You need to learn how to manage anxiety and stress so that you feel better and you can heal your nervous system from all that.

keep in mind that the more you worry the more you are going to have the symptoms.

i’m sorry you have to go through with the spinal tap. because chances are it’s going to be perfectly normal.

SO YES Anxiety and stress symptoms can come and go, they can stay constant. it’s a mixed bag. That’s why I say it’s important to relax your mind. See if you can get some counseling for this because it’s easier when somebody is helping you manage it.

and remember that our fearful and scary thoughts can definitely cause these sensations to get stronger.

feel free to private message me anytime! I have been there and I know how it feels. And I know how scary it is. But you don’t have to feel like this all the time. For now take one day at a time and please find a counselor to talk to. You can do it virtually and it works great. That’s what I do. Take care ❤

Hi, my symptoms are similar. I am getting left side jaw pain (right side too but less than left). Tingling in left arm and fingers , pain in left arm , left side of chest and even center, stomach pain , floaters in eye, dizziness, etc. Sometimes the jaw pain comes very bad like after gymming and it scares me. It started in 2017 with a panic attack and i had so many tests especially for heart like ecg , echo , TMT, etc. Recently someone said i should go for MRI to get checked for MS but my doctor says since you had anxiety, i don't think it would be necessary. What should i do. I am going to a dentist tomorrow for jaw pain and orthopaedic for these pains on left side.

I thought you have had three MRIs already?

The jaw pain could be unrelated to your other sensations, possibly.

sometimes people have misalignment in the jaw which is nothing serious. There are some exercises the dentist gives people to do. So don’t panic about that. just go to your appointments and see what they tell you. sounds like you’ve had a lot of testing done already.

all your test may come out perfectly normal like what happened with me. That’s when I knew everything was due to long-term stress and anxiety. So then I had to focus on managing that. that’s what I started getting counseling.
