Is this really reflux.

I started getting bad acid after my first anxeity attack 4 yrs ago, ive been left with daily anxeity and acid. Over these last 12 months i get a blocked nose daily, nasel drip and like a itchy feeling at the back of my mouth/throat. I get bad heads and at times my ears and face hurt. I thought it was my sinus but nothing helped it. My doctor and others are now saying its my reflux. Im on meds for it and they help a little but every few months wham i get these things and then they'll go for a few months and then back again like now. Ive had bloods tested for everything and other tests and alls fine so this is why my doc is saying feflux... I also get a lot of chest pain and shortness of breath too.. Do others suffer like this or is it just me xx

Gosh, that sounds like allergies to me. My throat, mouth, ear canals itch like crazy due to allergies. I take Claritan every day now and also use fluticason in my nose daily.

Reflux can really mess you up though! Since I stopped eating ice cream every night, my reflux has improved dramatically. I also am using PPI one time/day.

Maybe you have both problems, like I do.

Good luck. I hope you feel better.

Medical science seems to have let us down in this area. Perhaps it's because it is not cardiology and other life threatening problems. So much slippery surface. Ppl suffer for too long and doctors seem to think it's okay to just manage the condition. What of solutions like shredding your esophagus which leave more problems for the sufferer of spasm.

What do you mean by "shredding your esophagus?"

One last ditch easy doctors tend to address esophageal spasm is making cuts on the walls of the esophagus to reduce its capacity for contractions. This tends to leave lots of complications.

Hi, I have LPR for several years now. Refused PPI's so I take Zantac am and pm. Mastic Gum really helps me also. Just started taking Pepzin GI after reading how beneficial it is for reflux so I have just received it in the post. I also get panic attacks (but tend to keep away from what sets me off 😦 ) It goes hand in hand with acid. My nose is blocked loads of times and drippy all the time. Throat can come and go. It is a real pain for us all.

What have you tried apart from docs meds?

    Best to you

Hope that you don't mind me adding you but why have you chosen not to take PPI's.?

I have been suffering from LPR for almost a year now and PPI'S for me have been very ineffective.

I have seen two different ENT consultants and had so many cameras and scans. They have noticed the LPR.

I also have seen a Gastro surgeon and had a bravo chip fitted when I had a gastoscopy.

Lots more to add but perhaps that should be in a post of its own.

I'm curious how well Zantac is working for you.?

      Best wishes

Hi, no don't mind at all. I took PPIs a few years ago for a month and they did nothing at all. Then I started reading the awful side effects and what they can cause. I know you are only supposed to take them for a couple of months and then they start to mess with your calcium levels and cause deficiency leading to all sorts. I do know people who have to stay on them (Barretts) as they cannot tolerate any acid at all or it can become nasty. But PPIs take away all of your stomach acid and a stomach without acid is like a heart without blood. Of course, if I really had to, then I would have to reconsider. (A friend has 2 ulcers which turned her acid tum into Barretts and she has been told she has to take them for life). But I keep having a go at other natural things to use like the Mastic. Ranitidine {Zantac) work for me and don't cause me any problems at all and my newest find is Kefir and Sowerkraut (sp) which really are showing results. Hope some of this helps with this pain in the tum.

      Thanks for your reply.

My ENT consultant is not happy for me to be in PPI'S long term, that makes two of us.

Not only were they not helping me with LPR the side effects were not good at the time of taking them. Their long term side effects are also questionable.

I have modified my diet considerably and use Peptac, with Sodium Alganate, after each meal. I do chew a little gum after a meal as well.

I am also trying a little Sodium Bicarbonate added to water as well as generally drinking more, which i has a higher alkaline base, than a neutral pH.

I have also bought myself a wedged pillow.

I have not heard of Mastic.?

I do miss my 90% Cocoa chocolate tho, I used to eat lots of that.! Then again I have had to stop drinking peppermint tea well. Dietary changes can be pretty demanding.!

Oh yes chocolate hurts me-coffee too. Look up mastic - it lines your stomach to protect it and has been going for many many years. It also protects against H pylori which is a bacteria that us gerdy peeps are prone to. It is said to kill it. Yes dietary changes are a pain. I am finding fault with my so called protective toothpaste which my dentist told me to get because the acid is hurting my gums - but it hurts my stomach after I brush even tho I rinse. Uggh and it goes on and on. Just been and bought a natural toothpaste which is Fennel based.

Got to keep researching. Take care.

Just ordered some Mastic gum capsules, thanks for the idea.

Also I have been reading about Betaine HCL, with the enzyme Pepsin. The idea behind it is that low stomach acid can cause reflux and other digestive issues. When using it you need to stop using anti acid meds as they counteract the benefits of the Bentaine.

Not sure how I think about that, seems opposite of what I'm being told by specialists. Still what I am reading so far seems to make sense.

Thankfully I checked it OK in regards to H pylori when I was tested by a specialist.

You also take care and thanks for sharing.

Bev, I have just responded to you but it has gone for moderation. This site is getting so silly. I did not name a manufacturer in what I suggested. There are several companies that make it. The silly moderating really does not help us out. I don't want to private message, I want others to see and exchange their thoughts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MODERATOR - Please advise me why.
