Is this really Shingles?

it started with hypersensitivity to touch and cold on my right hip. then days later a rash appeared. I went to the Dr and he said yes, shingles. he prescribed antiviral medication. i had a fever for a day and body aches I have been on the meds for 3 days.. I don't itch and not a lot of pain. no blistering of the rash yet. is this really shingles? if so without blistering and healing over will I know if I am clear from being contagious?
