Is this Trigeminal Neuralgia

Posted , 3 users are following.

Writing on behalf of my sister She has had altered sensation, pins and needles, buzzing noise in head numbness on one side of her face and head soft palette and gums

No severe pain

She has it most days but it does seem to be positional

It all started after taking Remapril for blood pressure and came on a couple of hours after

She has all the scans and nothing was found

Wondering whether the blood pressure tablets pushed the artery against trigeminal nerve

Tegretol helped but altered her with blood cells

She has been to see so many specialists with no diagnosis and no treatment plan Its like they don't believe her She is desperate Just wondering whether it could be a form of trigeminal Neuralgia as sensations follow that nerve Any ideas

Ok, this is just my thoughts:

The absence of severe pain would pretty much rule out TN. You don’t mention if the she’s sensitive to touch in these areas, which is another common factor – then again, this sensitivity would normally trigger pain.

To my understanding, a blood vessel (or tumor) causing this condition by pressing against the trigeminal nerve is a slow process by nature (wearing the protective layer of the nerve down over time), but a lot of people seem to experience the onset of symptoms in relation to a specific event.

It seems that the initial signs of TN can differ a lot, but then again, the pain is often what sets it apart, and I don’t know much about the possible initial symptoms of atypical TN (type 2), if not pain.

Anyway – the absence of pain and a possibility (or risk) of TN doesn’t mean the trigeminal nerve isn’t somehow involved, but I have no idea what it can be.

Did I tell you this is only my thoughts, and that I’m only guessing? I’m not qualified to do a diagnosis. I just wanted you to get at least one response.

I hope you figure it out! 😕
