Is tight pressure at front, near knee cap normal?

Posted , 6 users are following.

My swelling was reducing (8 weeks post TKR today) and suddenly over the last two days I have experienced an immense pressure and tightness at the front of my knee. Is this normal? It feels more than swelling and occasionally is joined by a pain. I can't really bend my leg as a result. I haven't done any more than normal. I have iced and elevated but no change. Has anyone else had this? It's not just the tight band feeling.

Don't panic yet Susie! Give it a few days of icing & very gentle exercise or none at all depending on how bad it feels. The knee is driving everything now & can take its own sweet time to get back to 'normality'. I have noticed as time has gone on different things with my knee!! I am nearly 7 months po! Lately I have had a pricking, hot feeling around my kneecap, I think it's nerve as it is in the same general place as the numbness! Just gonna wait & see!

I would say to you to do the same, give it time to resolve before you start visiting the GP or anyone! All sorts of strange sensations come from the knee area, which generally are a natural part of recovery from what is essentially butchery carried out on your knee!!

Just remember the knee is in charge!!

    Keep us updated.

You are right Marilyn. I picked up the phone to ring the hospital line (for questions) and thought better of it. I think it may be new swelling and feels like an intense pressure. I will wait a few days and see how it goes. Such an anxious time. Hope your recovery continues to improve.

I'm 11 weeks and have not had the textbook recovery, been a challenge. My knee is very swollen and tight and I had to have an MUA to manipulate the knee as it was resisting bend and the pain was almost unbearable. The tight feeling is most unpleasant.

?Do you still have any PT sessions? As therapist could evaluate your knee again. Ups and downs are very much part of this recovery for many of us.

?If you don't get any benefit after a few days of icing and elevating and rest maybe ask to see your consultant again. It might be just a temporary setback while your knee does some more healing, or recovers from you doing a bit more activity?  I have to go back in a few weeks so have to work on my bend and strength - going through a lot of pain - hoping for some gain.

Thanks my lovely. I'm going for some water assisted therapy privately to see if that helps x

Thanks Cynthia and sorry to hear about your tightness. I am seeing my PT next Monday but I am going to book some private hydrotheraphy sessions as I am schedued to have my second one done later this year and want to ensure this one is happy and healthy. Good luck with your exercises and I will send you lots of positive thoughts and hugs.

Thank you. It is best to get this knee right before the other is done for sure. You are so brave - I cannot contmplate another yet! x

    Hi!

I had that feeling of a tight band around my knee

    Up until the 5th month

    It resolved it self

I still did my pt and water therapy

Now in the 6th month I do everything and when my knee swells up I know I've done too much

    And I've and elevate

    Good luck with your recovery

    Good thoughts coming your way!
