Is Total Hip Replacement worth it?

I have advanced AVN in left hip. All orthopedic surgeons say I will need a THR right now or eventually. I have some pain, use a cane sometimes, but drive, do everything, just a little more slowly. Cannot believe this happened - I've been a hot yoga devotee in a very hard class for over 8 years, will lose that. What should I do? Do cortisone shots, electrical stimulation, exercise, diet, physical therapy buy you months or years or forever before you cannot walk and have excruciating pain? Doctors say THR is easy and wonderful, real people sound like the pain after surgery is worse. Is there anyone out there that wishes they didn't do it? THR surgery is irreversible, you can't get your live bone back. What to do?

In my reply I forgot to mention......I've just had a cortisone injection. You've probably noticed in another post about my fracture of the hip so I wont go over the boring story again. Its 2 weeks ago I had it to see if it eased the pain. I've got to go back and see him in about 4 weeks time.
It has helped. Not taken the pain away completybut has certainly eased it.
I'll try and remember to post when I've seen him and see how it is then and what he says about more.......

It really helped my pain.
For me the cortisol didn't stay only in the knee.
I experience red hot flashes.and emotionally tense.and very hungry.I wanted to eat everything in site. These are minor side effects.
Stronger one can bring on diabetes if your border line diabetic.its tricky of you have osteoporosis you much of the steroid can make that condition worse.
However one shot shouldn't cause any harm.lol

I had it done by an anesthesiologist. He isthe pain doctor here in the littleapple
BUT later on I went to nurse anesthesia. He would not even look at my X-Rays. He hurt me. And it didn't work.
Them three yrs ago I had a very major back surgery. The surgeon found two holes in the spinal cord.more epidural are not to go there.only the epidural space. So he had to repair my spinal cord.I would not have ever know out of I didn't have found surgery.more I also had later before surgery mylogram.in preparation for the surgery.z that could have cause those holes.
Also if your in the U.S.. That procedure ifs still not FDA approved. People think it's just a minor procedure. BUT can have serious consequences.
Be sure you will be in the rt. Hands for your procedure. God blessed.let us know how well it works for you.

I had the injection on the outside {top} of my left leg
Dont forget it was for a fracture not the THR and i do have osteoporosis but I trust my consultant.
I've had no side effects at all
Its been good
Like I said.....it hasnt taken the pain away completely {dont want to give you false hope] but its a lot better than it was so for me if I was asked I would say it was a result!!!

Interesting.....Never heard that cortisone can make osteoporosis worse?
If you remember I fractured my hip doing an N.H.S. Exercise and they discovered afterwards that it fractured easily because I have osteoporosis......so they know I have osteoporosis
It will be intersting when I go back to see him in about four weeks time to see how it has worked and what he says about more??

Is it a cortisone one they want to give you in your back?
I've had "facet joint enjections" in my back but this is the first cortisone I've ever had
Do let us know how it goes on Tuesday
